Another magical weekend in the desert! It all began Saturday night with a concert with the incomparable Christine Ebersole at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. Musical magic was in the air, thanks to the wonderful Rick Montalbano and Trey Henry. Rick even brought along his better half, the sublime Jane Monheit, and we all enjoyed a lovely backstage reunion after the show. Working with Christine is a dream and the audience was one of our best ever.

Sunday brought the fulfillment of a long-anticipated dream: a photo shoot with the legendary Michael Childers. It was a fantastic morning, complete with his assistant, lighting expert, and hair and makeup team in tow. It truly felt like real showbiz, and I can’t wait to see the results. One thing I know for sure—the photos will be unlike any I’ve ever done before.

That evening, dear Michael Ostrow and Roger Stoker hosted a perfectly swell dinner party for Christine and me, surrounded by a terrific group of fun and funny friends. It was wonderful to see Marla Garlin and Laurie Feig, and to meet Christine’s friends—and now mine—Christa Kirby and Cathy Walsh. Jack Donahue, Rich Carson and Mark Sendroff were also there, though they slipped away before we managed to capture a group shot.

Monday was all about relaxing and looking ahead to the next few weeks and the day capped off beautifully with a visit to my dear friends Dayna Steele and her husband Charlie. Their son Dack Justiz and his boyfriend had just arrived from New York for a belated family Christmas. While we missed a group photo, it’s clear that something someone said left me in stitches!

Just before turning in, I snapped a photo of my friends David and Michael’s Christmas tree. In the dim light, it looked so cool and perfectly mid-century. I’m thrilled they’d kept it up—it even made its way into a few shots during Sunday’s session. Who knows? Maybe a Christmas album is in my future.

Now I’m writing this from the lovely outdoor Palm Springs airport, about to board my flight home. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—Palm Springs (and Palm Desert) never disappoints!
