From the classroom to the Capitol, our students visited the U.S. Congress to learn about history, politics, and careers.

We appreciate our alumni mentor, David Harper, for discussing your professional journey as a dual CSU graduate (CSUDH and Sac State) to working in the Inspector General's office of the US Capitol Police. by @dcscholars_csu

We are so proud of our DC Scholars for making their mark in Washington, D.C.!

Meet Daniel, a 2026 Summer DC Scholar who turned his summer in D.C. into an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Through Cal State DC Scholars, Daniel secured an internship with the California State University Office of the Chancellor’s Office of Federal Relations, where he contributed to the CSU’s mission of building an equitable education system. He also worked with BORICUACTIVATED, researching civic education policies across the country, and spent two weeks interning in the Office of Congressman Lou Correa.

But his impact didn't stop when he returned home. Daniel and a team of fellow interns developed a civic education scholarship program to support students in historically redlined communities in Los Angeles. Their grant proposal earned first place in the Pat McCabe Impact Fellowship Program!

Stories like Daniel’s show how a summer in Washington, D.C., can open doors to new opportunities, build meaningful connections, and inspire students to make a difference in their communities.

Help us create more success stories like Daniel’s! Join us in celebrating the Class of 2027 by giving $27 for the Class of 2027. Your support helps make these life-changing experiences possible for future DC Scholars.

🍁 🍂East Coast fall weekend exploring with our Fall Cal State DC cohort.

Check out how these students took a road trip for a “journey to Waffle House and Buc-ee's,” as first time visitors to these popular spots. Along the route, we stumbled upon a Go-Kart track and decided to make a pit stop. by @dcscholars_csu

Trivia Tuesday 🏛️ James Smithson never once set foot in the United States, yet his name is attached to 21 museums and a zoo. The English scientist's bequest founded the Smithsonian Institution, and today his remains rest in a crypt just inside the north entrance of the Smithsonian Castle, brought over from Genoa, Italy in 1904, decades after his death.

From Capitol Hill to Service: Garrett’s Next Chapter

For Garrett, a summer in Washington, D.C. became more than an internship. It changed the way he sees his future in public service.

As a Cal State DC Scholar interning in Congressman Darrell Issa’s office, Garrett gained firsthand experience on Capitol Hill and connected with congressional staff, young professionals and others working in public service. Those experiences inspired him to consider a new path: serving as a naval officer before attending law school.

“Working in our nation’s capital as an intern in Congressman Darrell Issa’s office has inspired me to serve our country in a deeper way.”

Through the DC Scholars Program, students don’t just gain professional experience. They build connections, develop new skills and discover possibilities they may not have considered before.

Your support makes experiences like Garrett’s possible.
