In case you haven't heard: I have breast cancer.

I have had surgery, and I am feeling good. I will have chemo this summer and radiation in the fall.

I am NOT at all worried about the prognosis --this is NOT going to kill me. I'm not excited about treatments, but I am confident in my doctors and ready to go.

Before anyone asks: I'm going to try something called "cold capping" because if asked to choose between my hair or my breast, I will choose my hair EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I don't need a thing. I have tons of emotional and practical support. I am just letting you know because I don't like secrets and I do like to remain in control of my own story.

So, in short: Trump is still president, the US is bombing civilians and starting wars, ICE is rounding up people and incarcerating them based on little to no evidence, higher education and public history (the home and heart of my career) are in crisis. And I have cancer.

My hair was weird and patchy. Big areas of bald surrounded by long wispy pieces. I joked that I was a combination of Larry David and Albert Einstein. Pretty accurate actually. So I finally gave in and cut it all off. Thank you to @tamleyssalle at @couleurhousesalon for her kindness and sensitivity. I feel better. I think it will grow in a bit more evenly this way. Besides, who doesn’t want to channel Annie Lennox?!
