I am so so happy with the outcome of this project. I designed a cake some months ago that I really wanted to make. And well I asked the AYB to help me bring it to life! I wanted to have this project bring us together and let us have fun while making something nostalgic.

I was only able to pick up the base on the Wednesday before my show, so we really only had like 2 days to make the cake 😭 but we made it happen! I’m EXTREMELY grateful for my friends for helping me out and giving me advice on how to achieve this outcome! We worked super hard but we also had some good fun, I really felt the love and joy. Long days and late nights playing our favorite music and joking around. To me this cake represents our friendship and ability to work together. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do this and I’m especially grateful that my mom funded this project.

This cake is near and dear to my heart, and I hope you guys can take time to visit the gallery and admire this creation of love and friendship. It’ll be up for the rest of the month!

Huge shoutout to Itzel for figuring out how to frost the cake with the spackling! She was so ready and the best frosting lead🫡
Christian figured out how to make the spackling the perfect consistency for piping!
Vero the supervisor for candy making!
Everyone got together to make all the cute little candies out of clay🫶

Francisco and Vanessa even made the glittery pillar for the cake, they’re so sweet!! 😭🩷 and GENIUS

This cake is part of my first solo exhibition currently up at @galeria_mestizaje for the rest of the month.

Also they ayb kept playing this song during our crafting sessions as well as Bjork LOL

I love them. I love my friends so much… by @ddoncamaticc

Installation for my solo exhibition happening this month

I always loved flails in illustrations and character art, I often draw my characters with one and I even have a tattoo of one. I wanted to try making a real one that is art. My mom really pushed for me to do this. We ordered a piñata base from my moms friend in Tijuana, and then my friends figured out how to make it look awesome as fuck😫

Francisco sharpened the spikes and sprayed it with chrome spray paint, ngl it smelled so bad but it looked so cool😭 and Maribel was a genius for saying we should use pool noodles to make the chain!! Idk HOW they secured the links together with little sticks but they did that shit! And Christian HAND PAINTED the handle to make it look like wood😭🙏 my friends spent like a whole day working on this and I am so grateful… they are all geniuses and I’m so proud of them. This project means so much to me and I’m so grateful they wanted to help me.

YES we can technically swing it around but it is lowkey secured by just sticks and tape, e6000 didn’t work on the pool noodles taken in Aztlan Libre Galeria Moran by @ddoncamaticc

Thank you so much @_misael_ for taking pics!

And thank you @aztlanlibre for allowing me to have this show and everyone in the @aztlan.youthbrigade for helping me bring it to life. I wanted to bring people to the space of aztlan libre and get them thinking about their identity, while also giving them a safe space to be themselves. And well I can say my goal was met!

My piece for Hojas de Maíz @galeria.moran619
“Tamalera” portrait of my mom @isas_tamales
Acrylic on canvas
16x20
NFS

Although I don’t consider myself a painter, but if that, a beginner…. I chose to paint a portrait of my mom who vends tamales full time. I wanted to honor all the hard work that she does, as well as capture things as they are right now. My family honestly had a lot of struggles, still does, but recently I’ve learned a lot from my mom, learned about myself, and I’m extremely grateful for all the work that she does. Vending tamales is her form of self determination. She continues the tradition of making tamales, which every flavor is invented from her mind, talent and memory of eating them on the street corners of Little Village, Chicago IL when she was a kid. I think she always wanted to be a cook but my dad didn’t want her to succeed in life. Once he finally left, she built her business from the ground up and then with an organization Kitchens For Good. She carries a power with herself and with her tamales; she advocates for her fellow entrepreneurs, hosts fundraisers for community members in need, caters for good causes, and employs youth that need somewhere to work. Shes an avid supporter of the organization I’m in, Aztlan Youth Brigade. She’s a successful business that pours back into her own community, something that’s not easy but she manages to do it all the time. So I think she deserves all the recognition. She is an exemplary Chicana like others I’ve come to know on my journey, and she’s an honorary Revolucionari@.

Her business has brought so much for me and SO MANY others in the past 6 years, we had so many good days and bad days. In the kitchen and at the table at the market. I’m looking forward to all the types of days that come in the future.

It was an honor working on this mural of my friend/comrade fellow Aztlan Youth Brigade member, Veronica Moran “Vero”

It was an honor to work alongside these talented artists over the past month:

Tekpatl Patricia Cruz
Christian Arreguín
Rocky Esquivias
Itzel Ventura-Medina
Efrain Haro Miranda
Paola Amelie

She truly touched so many peoples lives, she loved people, learning, helping the youth, and she loved her friends. She loved it all and she was 100% Chicana for all of it. I noticed she was firm in her identity as I got to know her in the past year and a half, and carried herself with grace. I’m really really sad that she’s gone but her spirit is really still with us. We can feel her presence sometimes. I’m glad that we have a space where we can continue to honor our friend and carry on her legacy. by @ddoncamaticc

The duality of xochi🕸️

I’m currently in the process of doing a turnaround, expressions & bio for her, but it’s taking forever 😭 so yall can have this in the meantime. Sorry she has no story rn. I’m not that good at writing.

I’m also trying to go back to having a simpler, cartoony style as opposed to full on illustration type shit.. cuz I really want to work on Saturday morning type cartoons… that is also really hard for me ✌️😭💔

Xochiquetzal (SOLD)
Acrylic paint and India ink

For sale at @aztlanlibre fundraising for my friend, sister, comrade, guerrera Veronica Moran

Vero sadly passed away, but her spirit and light will forever live on through everyone here at Aztlan Libre. She did so much great work for the Chicano movement and for her community. And she really was like a sister to me, she was so sweet and funny and fierce. She brought everyone in the Aztlan Youth Brigade together, we all looked up to her.

All proceeds from this piece will go directly to Vero’s family. There is also other artwork available for sale to fundraise for them as well.
