TEMPORAL DISSONANCE (Brisbane)
Georg Whelan & Seamus Platt

Opening:
5th December, 5pm
Flying Colours
63 Vulture Street, West End, QLD, 4101

Returning off the back of their 2024 joint solo opening in Berlin, Whelan & Platt use their respective mediums of painting and documentary photography, though, this time to traverse the relationship between time, morality & mortality.

“They [Whelan’s paintings] are all concerned with time and change and ultimately acceptance, acceptance of things that have been and that things are but won’t be for much longer, it’s a nod to the idea of impermanence and the need to accept it, to be present with our world even as it falls apart, to be present with where we are even if our history is bleak or our society is alienating.” - Georg Whelan

“I’m a fan of using both allegory and reportage in my work. Here I’m doing it by marrying folktales, anecdotes, and photographic scenes from every-day settings with archival documents, diary entries and images made at museums/landmarks. Comprising of images made throughout Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia this series aims to hold a mirror up people receiving the work. They peer into the background, where they see the first half of the twentieth century and then into the foreground where they see the current day. Both show the catastrophes that accompany the rise of authoritarianism, imperialism, and ultranationalism. My new body of work, ‘My Močiutė sent Me’, draws parallels between past and present in an effort to warn of dark histories that are rhyming with events of today.” - Seamus Platt
