'Is Was' is my upcoming exhibition at The Kenny Gallery, Galway.

It brings together new paintings and photographs made recently – scenes held in memory, or recorded in passing, and reworked in the studio.

Some are rooted in Galway. Others come from that blurred line between what was seen and what was felt.

24 October – 18 November, 2025.

More info, link in bio.

25 years (!) since I got the opportunity to make my 'massive heads' for Macnas in Galway in 1998. Half a life away, and I don't know where the time's gone!? The real craze only lasted a couple of years, and although hard work sometimes, it was a whole lot of fun. Great days, great friends!

Such a pleasure to snap one of the great historical fiction writers, Robert Harris - a favourite, no pressure like - who visited Galway on Friday. Organised by Kennys Bookshop, a full house at the Blackbox enjoyed a fascinating conversation about his newest book Agrippa, masterfully moderated by Ryan Tubridy. #robertharris #writer #agrippa #kennysbookshop taken in Black Box Theatre, Galway by @deankellyarts

Welcoming the great Robert Harris to Galway yesterday was up there with the best of days. A remarkable personality, writer and speaker, he is one of the greatest non-fiction writers in the world with a fascinating political and historical mind. After signing hundreds of his books, he was interviewed by Ryan Tubridy in the Black Box Theatre about his sixteenth novel, Agrippa. Their fascinating conversation brought us into the worlds of Ancient Rome, Germany during World War 2, Churchill's England and 19th century France. Harris spoke of the importance of looking at the past to understand the present, gave us insight into his career and his writing process, and finished by saying that he writes in the hope it gives people pleasure, and that that is the importance of art in all forms.
Our thanks to Ryan Tubridy for hosting such a terrific interview and Q&A, to Sophie, Kate and all at publisher's Penguin Random House, and to Fergal and all the great team at the Black Box.
Most especially, thank you to Robert Harris. It was a pleasure to welcome him to Galway for the first time, to celebrate his remarkable work with such an occasion and to witness him speak on stage. A true intellectual, artist and gentleman.

Met and snapped Kyla Cobbler yesterday evening. Had to run before the end of the event, but the fading echo of laughter will stick in my head for a long time. She’s walking joy … in a world of shite, be more Kyla x
