A little spirited away 🥀 📸 @louixa 📍 Kinchakuda 巾着田 🇯🇵 Kinchakuda’s sea of red spider lilies looks like something straight out of Japanese folklore. With flowers said to guide souls to the afterlife, it’s a beautiful place to lose yourself… just don’t follow them too far 👀 . . #彼岸花 #巾着田曼珠沙華公園 #曼珠沙華 #japantravel #ファインダー越しの私の世界 by @dearorla
📍 Guruguru Shakashaka ぐるぐるしゃかしゃか, Tokyo 🇯🇵 📅 Reservations are required, so make sure to book your workshop online in advance! Who knew making your own salt could be so much fun? 🧂✨ I visited Guruguru Shakashaka in Tokyo, where you can create your very own personalised salt blend! The shelves were lined with around 600 different salt blends, all made using just a handful of base salts. Pretty impressive considering how many combinations they managed to come up with! The workshop started with a little salt tasting, where we tried everything from sweet and umami to bitter salts, using a rather interesting flavourless blue jelly as our tasting canvas 🥄 I’ll admit, most of them tasted pretty similar to me, except the bitter one! From there, we narrowed down our preferences, chose our ideal texture, and eventually created our own little salt blend 🧂 We even got to draw on our packaging to make it extra personal. And of course, the best part was getting to try our finished salt on some buttered toast. 🍞🧈 Such a quirky little experience and definitely one of the more unusual workshops I’ve tried in Tokyo. Plus, you get to take home a souvenir you’ll actually use! Would you try a salt-blending workshop? 👀 . . #tokyoexperiences #thingstodointokyo #japantravel #tokyohiddengems #tokyoworkshop by @dearorla
📍 Sano Miso Kameido Main Store (佐野みそ 亀戸本店) If you thought miso was just for miso soup, think again! Miso is a traditional Japanese fermented soybean paste used to add a rich, savoury flavour to dishes like soups and sauces 🥄 This speciality shop in Tokyo’s Kameido neighbourhood is a little paradise for miso lovers. You’ll find an incredible selection of miso from different prefectures across Japan, each with its own flavour profile and recommended uses. The fun part? You can fill out a questionnaire to discover which miso best suits your taste buds, then try a miso tasting flight to compare different varieties! There’s also a restaurant serving miso-inspired dishes, plus some pretty interesting flavoured miso, including mushroom & cheese, shiso, salmon and vegetable miso. 🍄🧀 Who knew there was so much to learn (and taste!) about miso? . . . . . . #tokyohiddengems #tokyofood #japantravel #tokyoeats #東京グルメ by @dearorla
📍 Daio Wasabi Farm, Nagano 大王わさび農場 🌱🇯🇵 Daio Wasabi Farm has huge stretches of wasabi fields, with the plants growing in clear, flowing spring water from the Northern Alps. The cool, clean water is part of what makes this area of Nagano so well suited to growing wasabi. You can walk alongside the fields and see rows and rows of it growing but obviously, I was also very interested in all the things they’ve managed to turn into wasabi flavour 😂 🍦 Wasabi ice cream 🌭 Wasabi sausage 🥔 Wasabi croquette 🍺 And even wasabi beer The ice cream was surprisingly refreshing and much milder than the wasabi kick you’d expect with sushi. It’s a really fun place to see how wasabi is grown while also trying some slightly unexpected ways of eating it. Would you try the wasabi ice cream? 🌱🍦 . . #大王わさび農場 #長野旅行 #japantravel #nagano #japanfood by @dearorla
📍 Kinchakuda Manjushage Park (巾着田曼珠沙華公園) 🚃 Hidaka, Saitama — around 15 mins on foot from Koma Station 🌹 Manjushage Festival: Sept 21 – Oct 6, 2026 ⏰ 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM 🎟️ Entry: ¥500 Every September, around 5 million red spider lilies bloom across Kinchakuda, transforming the park into a breathtaking sea of red. ✨ Bonus: Night illuminations are being held on selected dates this year, so you can also see the spider lilies after dark. Blooming dates can shift depending on the weather, so check the official bloom updates before you go! 🌹 Did you know? In Japan, red spider lilies are called higanbana (彼岸花). They bloom around the autumn equinox, during the Buddhist Higan period when people traditionally visit their ancestors’ graves. Because of this, the flowers have long been associated with remembrance, the changing seasons and the afterlife. Save this for your September Japan itinerary 🌹 . . . . #japantravel #japanautumn #japantraveltips #巾着田 #曼珠沙華 by @dearorla
📍 Koenji, Tokyo 🗓️ 2026: August 29–30 This is Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori (東京高円寺阿波おどり) and it actually comes from Tokushima in Shikoku, where the dance has a history stretching back centuries. Koenji’s version came much later, starting in 1957 as a way to bring more energy and visitors to the local shopping streets. What started as a tiny neighbourhood event eventually grew into one of Tokyo’s biggest summer festivals. Today, more than 10,000 dancers can take part, performing in groups called ren (連), while around one million people come to watch. The dancing moves through the streets around Koenji and Shin-Koenji, so the whole neighbourhood basically turns into one giant festival ✨ And the different ren were so fun to watch because they each have their own costumes, choreography, musicians and personality. It’s usually held on the last weekend of August, and honestly, if you love Japanese festivals, dancing or just seeing Tokyo completely come alive, put this one on your list🏮 Save this for next year! 🏷️ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #高円寺阿波おどり #阿波踊り #koenjiawaodori #tokyofestival #japantravel by @dearorla
Happy birthday to me! 🥳 A little older, a little wiser, and still figuring it all out 🌸 🎂 🎉 Feeling extra grateful today for all the love, little moments, unexpected adventures, and people who make my life so special. 📍かき氷工房 雪菓 (Atelier Sekka), Sugamo, Tokyo @atelier_sekka 🍓 Strawberry & pistachio — ¥2,000 🗓️ They don’t take online reservations. Kakigori might be one of the only things getting me through summer in Japan 🍧🥲 Tried the strawberry & pistachio flavour. The ice was super soft and fluffy, with fresh whipped cream on top and plenty of strawberry and pistachio flavour throughout 🍓 The pistachio was probably my favourite part, it was creamy, nutty and so good with the strawberry. We also got the black sugar & kinako one, which was less fruity and more of that roasted, nutty Japanese flavour 🤎 Also loved watching them make the kakigori! 🍧 They use these old-school looking machines and manually pull the handle to shave the ice. Somehow our order came out really quickly despite each one being made like this. The shop itself was really cute too, there were lots of anime figures and drawings everywhere, plus a whole wall covered in signatures from famous people who’ve visited 👀 Make sure to add this one to your Japan summer food list! 🍧✨ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #japanfood #tokyofood #kakigori #かき氷 #東京グルメ by @dearorla
📍 Spider-Man Pop-Up at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA 🇯🇵 🗓️ Event until Sept 13th ⚠️ The café & museum ends Aug 1st, so make those your priority if you’re visiting soon! SHIBUYA TSUTAYA is hosting a limited-time Spider-Man event with exclusive merch, photo spots, a themed café, and a movie museum celebrating the new film 🎥 I tried the Spider-Man parfait (¥1,800) and it was surprisingly good! ❤️💙 The red and blue layers are inspired by Spider-Man’s suit, with fruity flavors, creamy ice cream, and crunchy toppings that made it more than just a photo-worthy dessert 🍨 Marvel fans, add this to your Tokyo itinerary!🕸️ . . #tokyopopup #tokyotravel #japantravel #shibuya #spiderman by @dearorla

🏮 Mitama Matsuri みたま祭り2026 📅 July 13–16 📍 Yasukuni Shrine, Chiyoda, Tokyo 🇯🇵 🎟️ Free entry Tokyo summer nights really don’t get much more magical than this🏮✨ Mitama Matsuri takes place over four nights every July, filling the grounds of Yasukuni Shrine with around 30,000 glowing lanterns. Alongside the lantern displays, there are Bon Odori dances, traditional performances, mikoshi processions, Awa Odori and even a huge illuminated Aomori Nebuta float. From the lantern-lit pathways to the traditional performances and festival food, there was always something happening around every corner. It was such a fun way to spend a summer evening, and easily one of my favourite festivals in Tokyo so far. 🏷️ Save this for next summer in Tokyo 🇯🇵 . . #みたままつり #靖国神社 #japantravel #tokyotravel #summerinjapan by @dearorla
