Tokyo summer nights really don’t get much more magical than this🏮✨

Mitama Matsuri takes place over four nights every July, filling the grounds of Yasukuni Shrine with around 30,000 glowing lanterns. Alongside the lantern displays, there are Bon Odori dances, traditional performances, mikoshi processions, Awa Odori and even a huge illuminated Aomori Nebuta float.

From the lantern-lit pathways to the traditional performances and festival food, there was always something happening around every corner. It was such a fun way to spend a summer evening, and easily one of my favourite festivals in Tokyo so far.
