Been really sick and hurting badly from a back injury. Dealing with work problems, identification issues (to whit, I technically don’t exist) and financial hell. Altogether been a really hard few years. This backyard, my musical/engineering cohorts and my good friends have been a boon. I’m grateful to be alive. Can’t believe I’m still here honestly. Thank you and big love to everyone who cared for me and took me into their hearts to help. I owe you all my life. To the future! May it be full of art, love and steadfast belief in the kindness of others. I’m humbled. by @deathhand

A call to all; track your songs raw. Fix them with the tech after. Humans are inherently flawed. That’s why art is beautiful. Artists who are willing to be imperfect and human are those who will be the most prolific. Stop editing yourself and own your voice. I’ll be in the front row. by @deathhand

Meet a friend. Jam a lot. Write a song. Be in a band. Music isn’t a singular thing. With the options available start a band and go hit the road. It won’t hurt. Stop being afraid and be fearless. Fuck the idea that you have to pay money to learn art. That’s nonsense. Go get it done ya badasses. Believe in yourself and art and not what you want them to think you are. by @deathhand

So lucky to meet @theshills band mates on Craigslist in 2003. When people ask “what’s your band?” It’s exciting to hear positive to ultimate exclamations when they hear what we made. We are, in solidarity; a massive failure. Wrong place and time. The music we made changed my mind. Sometimes it is better to fail miserably than it is to totally sell out. Not the problem. No one could ever assume that of The Shills. As we work through the industry and befriend all these amazing people everyone has the same question. “Why aren’t you famous?” It’s a long, totally mostly not interesting story. Yet a weekly short or pod to explore the future of the “band” seems interesting. Just people in a room trying stuff with an open mind. Hopefully people want to hear that. by @deathhand
