I hope one day we know each other well enough so I can REALLY let loose.

But for now: please believe me when I tell you that you NEED to get your affairs in order. No matter how old you are. No matter if you have kids, a pet, or nothing but a cell-phone plan.

The worst time to meet a funeral director is when you NEED to meet a funeral director.

That's why I made you this free guide.

I hope you don't need it for a LONG time, but I'm glad you're open to the conversation well ahead of time...

Comment "cheatsheet" and I'll send you a link to download this free, fillable (or printable!) guide.

This is really bad news.

If you’re planning a trip to scatter ashes, you could find yourself needing to make a really hard decision at the airport.

Please check with your airline to see if you can check an urn, and no matter what follow ALL the new rules to have the best chance of getting on board with your ashes.

Have you been caught up in this? LMK any tips you have!

What kind of care is right for you? What would YOU want towards the end of your life?

Do you think you’ll be a stand-off-ish cat, or do you think you’ll turn into a supreme cuddler, like mocha suddenly has??

Talking about this stuff early is so good…let’s do it here!

Many of us think end-of-life planning happens in a lawyer’s office, often in the middle of a crisis. But we know there's a better way to do this heart-led work.

Your will, power of attorney and advance directive matter ~ but there’s a piece of planning most people skip: the emotional side.

What do the people you love need to know about what matters most to you?

On Sunday, November 22, I’m joining my friend and colleague Christa Ovenell of @deathsapprentice.ca for Head & Heart: End of Life Planning. It’s four virtual hours of learning and reflection, held within a community of care.

Christa brings clarity to the practical side, exploring the systems, choices and opportunities to create meaning at the end of life. I'll invite you to consider the emotional side, including the rituals, senses and stories. Together, we’ll help you create a road map for the people you love.

This is for you if:

🕯 you’ve started thinking about this but don’t know what to do next

🕯 you know there are gaps in your plans

🕯 a diagnosis or a death has made this feel urgent

🕯 you’ve meant to do this for years and need one contained day to begin

You’ll never be asked to share more than you want to. You’ll leave with practical tools, curated resources and clear next steps.

“I thought I was ‘prepared’ with my will, POA and healthcare directive. I realized in this workshop there is SO much more to do.” ~ Past participant

📅 Sun, Nov 22 · 10am–2pm PCT (BC's new time zone)

🎙️ NEW EPISODE ALERT 🎙️

What does a death doula actually do?

This week we sat down with Christa Ovenell, a licensed funeral director, embalmer, end-of-life doula, and founder of @deathsapprentice.ca. She makes talking about death feel less scary, and sometimes even funny.

We cover:

☠️ What’s really in that box of “ashes”
☠️ Why the number one call a funeral home gets is “What do I do now?”
☠️ Why choosing disposition answers one question out of thousands.

We plan weddings, births, and retirements. Why not this?

Listen now at the link in bio, then send it to the person you’d trust to speak for you. 💛

I’m also someone who will keep asking a very important question:

In a push to “regulate” this ancient practice, who will get to decide what aspects of my work are legitimate?

Whose knowledge and ways of knowing will be prioritized?

What will be pushed out, disallowed, or deemed unimportant?

I can take some guesses. And if you think about it, I bet you can too.

End of life doulas have been around forever. It’s an ancient practice, but only recently is it becoming a profession.

There are a LOT of very credible and important professions that aren’t subject to licensing or regulation. This isn’t the only way to ensure standards are met (or exceeded).

It’s one way. And kind of a lazy one at that.

Here’s how to clap back 👏🩷

“Well I won’t be, and I love you: this is going to be a really hard time for me and knowing a little bit more about what matters to you, and what doesn’t, will help me so much. Also, I promise you this…talking about it won’t make it happen any faster!😂🩷”

Seriously. Lead with love. Lead with curiosity, and let them know it will help YOU…after all, they’re right! This isn’t really about them at all, is it?
