The best diary idea I’ve ever tried! Everything in the one spot🥳Whatever I’m looking for is easy to find🥳no more scrap bits of paper; notes on the fridge or in a multitude of note books or visual diaries🥳fantastic for both artists and non-artists!

Bedroom or lounge room?

‘The Golden Hour’ seems to be very happy in both! 😎

I love these situ apps! Seeing a painting in different spaces really helps you find the perfect setting and see the work at its absolute best - (a big thank you to Nic for being so good with words😜)

And for those who know me, you’ll know I’m not a fan of anything IT… except now I am! 😂😜

The Golden Hour

Some paintings come together really quickly. Others sit in the studio for months for little tweaks and changes along the way.

This one is definitely one of those.

I took a few photos along the way, and looking back it reminded me that sometimes the best thing you can do is stop.

Let it settle.
Step away.
Take it out of the studio.
Put it somewhere completely different.
And allow your eyes to see it with fresh perspective.

Sometimes both you and the painting just need a little before the answers are clear.

I’m calling this one finished. 💃

Very different from anything I’ve done before — definitely bolder and more playful — but I’m really enjoying where this new direction is taking me!

And seeing it framed, I’ve realised it sits comfortably in two very different spaces: a dramatic, moody setting or a light-filled luxury interior. 🙌

Painting is fun for so many reasons, but one of my favourites is that it gives you permission to explore all the different parts of yourself.

Some days I’m intuitive and loose, other days I’m bold and expressive. Sometimes I want to be quiet and considered, and sometimes I just want to throw colour around and see what happens!

There’s something pretty cool about not having to be just one thing.

‘If you don’t step forward, you’ll always be in the same place’. This is me stepping forward…..💃

Ps. Before I start any work, I always write myself a little message — something to remember as I’m painting and a reminder of what I want to bring into the work.

On some pieces, I’ve included that message on the back as they head to their forever homes. On others, I’ve forgotten.

Well… I’m not going to forget anymore. ❤️

I think those little messages are important. Ive realised that they’re part of the story of the painting — a little piece of intention, energy and heart that went into creating it.

Current studio happenings ✨

Sometimes you just have to keep exploring, experimenting and playing… without knowing exactly where you’re going.

Trying things, making messes, changing direction, starting again — until something clicks and you find your way into the flow.

These are a few random moments from the studio lately. Who knows where they’ll lead… but that’s half the fun. 🎨✨

So this is what happens when your incredibly talented web designer, @honorbowden, takes one of your latest artworks—the first piece in my new Beachcomber Series—and lets loose with the latest AI technology!

I am blown away by what she can do! Seeing my artwork interpreted in a whole new way is exciting.

I thought I’d share the judge’s comments about Just Another Sunrise, as I found them both surprising and incredibly encouraging.

This work received a Special Commendation from judge, Col McElwaine, finalist in the Archibald Prize 2025.

“Special mention to Deb, whose work invokes the classic Australian Impressionist seascape – with its high horizon line – easily identifiable as a view of the Australian coastline.”

I had no idea that’s what I was doing… but I’ll happily take it! 😜
