A huge thank you to every artist who entered. The quality of work on display was outstanding and made judging incredibly difficult. Your passion and creativity brought the spirit of surf culture to life and made this exhibition something truly special.

A special thank you to our judges, Col McElwaine (@colmecelwaine), Chloe Hume and Joli (@joliphotos), for generously sharing their time, expertise and thoughtful consideration throughout the judging process.

Congratulations also to Mack London from Vision Pictures Australia (@visionpicturesau), who secured Dave Sturmer’s award-winning piece, Eagle is Back, through our silent auction. We’re thrilled this incredible artwork has found a wonderful home, and we’re grateful for your support of both the exhibition and our artists.

Finally, thank you to everyone who visited the exhibition, cast a People’s Choice vote, supported the silent auction and celebrated the incredible talent on display throughout the event. Waves of Expression was a true celebration of our surf community, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you.

One thing I’ve learnt since moving countries 3 years ago, is that it takes time to intentionally fill a home. Objects can do more than just serve a function. They should hold a feeling, carry a story, and bring back a memory every time you pass them.

Connecting with local artists, bringing back objects from travels, and taking time to find that special vintage piece is all part of the enjoyment of curating a home. The dialogue between old and new, sitting side by side as if they were always meant to be there.

An art piece can trigger a memory of home. Hand sculpted ceramics can bring texture and reminders of the human touch. Layer by layer they build a story that is unique to you.

Day 2 | #21daysinmyartworld26 ✨
Lesson learned.

This journey keeps reminding me that we’re not meant to do it alone.

Art (and life) doesn’t always go to plan. There are twists, pauses, moments of doubt and growth — and what carries me through is my village. The mentors, programs, and friendships that hold space, offer perspective, and gently remind me to keep going.

With deep gratitude to my mentor @alan_morrison , the CVP Creative Visionary Program, my art bestie @deb_mac_art, and Di @dsgraphicsandsocialmedia — your support, wisdom, and belief mean more than words.

This lesson continues to shape how I show up — softer, stronger, and more connected.
If you’re walking your own creative path, know this: support is not a weakness, it’s a gift 🤍

Who’s part of your creative village?

✨ A colourful night at HOTA ✨
Last night I had the absolute pleasure of meeting international artist Morag Myerscough at HOTA. We took part in one of her vibrant workshops — creating colour, design and bold patterns — and had the chance to chat with her about her practice and the upcoming community art project that will brighten HOTA’s outdoor space.

Morag is a British artist renowned for her explosive use of colour, large-scale installations and transformative public art that brings joy and connection to public spaces. She’s incredibly inspiring in person — warm, generous and passionate about community creativity.

It was also wonderful to connect with other creatives on the Gold Coast. Nights like this remind me how energising it is to learn, share ideas and be part of a creative community.

Feeling inspired, colourful and creatively recharged. 🎨✨
