My piece for the ‘Joined Up’ collaboration with @dn_swandwales is finished. The ceramic buttons came out of the kiln this morning. Called ‘The Pathway’ it joins two parts of my practice the ceramic with re-discovered textile & embroidery. Where I am going with this I have no idea! Just having fun!

Work in progress! This is a piece for a project called ‘Joined Up’ with Design Nation SW & Wales @dn_swandwales . Contributors are asked to produce a linear piece of work to be joined with other pieces. Any medium. I am principally a ceramicist who’s revisiting her roots. This piece represents a pathway strewn with leaves and ceramic flower buttons. As I move along who knows where it will lead! Check out their feed there are some outstanding pieces of work already submitted.😊👍

When I was at college I became very interested in hand embroidering on different surfaces. I experimented embroidering on paper. The paper here in the first 2 examples is brown wrapping paper, printed and varnished to give it an aged and worn appearance. I then embroidered through the paper. I aimed to make it look like it had worn away with time. The last example is a multilayered piece. Stencilled fabric with machine embroidery, torn organza and hand stitching. It’s good to revisit old work sometimes. It’s reassuring to know that I still like these pieces!

I forgot to show you the inspiration for’Peas in a Pod’. Here it is, a fragment of an antique textile (can’t remember where I saw this now). My design done in Procreate, recoloured - love the vibrant colours and finally my best effort recreating the design in silk needlepoint.

I am re-discovering my love of embroidery. These are a few of the needlepoint pincushions I made as Christmas present for friends and family. Made in silk and cotton with a linen backing and filled with bran.
