I am delighted to be joining 35 of my Design Nation colleagues for Crafted Futures, a curated exhibition of exceptional contemporary craft. Presented by Design Nation it is part of London Design Festival 2026.
I will be showing my geometric pattern inspired ceramics and some of my birds!

Work in progress. The start of a new series of pieces based on my trip to India. I was particularly drawn to the red sandstone buildings decorated with white marble inlay. I have chosen a slightly coarse red clay with a white slip for this piece. The geometric pattern became quite complicated with each face of the cube being slightly different. I really enjoyed the challenge of this piece and I hope it turns out well.

Design Nation Notts+ Group exhibition has opened in Stamford Arts Centre. Titled, Growth, it explores each artist’s response to what the term growth means to them, personally, professionally and artistically. The result is a varied and exciting collection of work in a variety of media. It is beautifully curated and the gallery at Stamford is a lovely space. Refreshments are available too, what could be better than having a cuppa in a lovely gallery admiring the wonderful artworks on display?
The exhibition is on until 23rd May. On Saturday 16th 1.30pm - 4.30pm we are holding a Meet the Artist event and you will be able to find out about the works, how they’re made and anything else you would like to know! We hope to see you there.

Testing, testing, testing! It has to be done but can be fun too. Trying to out new clay, learning and practising different techniques. They don’t have to be perfect either, which is part of the learning process. Sometimes mistakes can be beneficial and can lead to new directions.
I think I am ready to start moving onto the next stage. Exciting 😊

In this selection, red & white clays, different coloured slips, inlay, texture, impressed patterns using tools & stamps & sprigs.

The first experimental piece based on my India trip. It draws on a typical arched shape, inlaid geometric patterning and sprig decoration. I couldn’t make my mind up whether to make it into a bottle with an added neck but in the end I went for it. It’s now drying slowly in the studio waiting for its first firing.

I am developing a new body of work based on my trip to India. So I am in design and development mode. This for me, is a fun time (playing with ideas) but also has its anxiety (what am I doing, will anything come of this).
After a couple of weeks of drawing I am slowly moving on to the next phase. Test tiles! Here is the development of one such tile. It’s a white clay and I am using coloured slips that I already have to hand in the studio so the colours might not be right. At this stage I am practicing technique and finding out what is possible, what works and what does not.
So far I am happy, I think I will be able to use this one. Let’s see what it looks like after firing and glazing!

And so it begins. A new body of work based on my trip to India. I don’t know where it will go but my starting point, as ever, is to look at the source material. In order to understand the patterns I have to recreate them on paper.
This particular pattern is seen on the walls of the Itmad-ud-daula, a mausoleum in Agra which predates the Taj Mahal. In fact it is sometimes called the baby Taj. This was the one place I was anxious to see. It is a jewel box of decoration, every inch covered in patterns. I could have spent days there. 😊
