Being on the road for multiple days, away from family and loved ones, is obviously not always easy; however it certainly does have its moments. And this morning was one of the best!

I get asked quite frequently, how much art I collect. You might be surprised that despite being in the industry, working with such wonderful artists and handling great pieces constantly, that I personally do not possess many pieces. But one piece I do cherish is a relatively small work by @debbiecarroll. Her works have a sort of peaceful joy; which, in my opinion, we can all use a little more of.

.
So it was a special moment to share a pre-dawn cup of coffee with her and her husband this morning in their home.
.
.
Thank you so much for the hospitality!!

Additional bonus::I got to see my first real live armadillo in their yard. taken in Christoval, Texas by @debbiecarroll

Going big with this one, another work in progress - this time for the Cowgirl Up! show this Spring at the @westernmuseum in Wickenburg, Arizona. A favorite view that I am reinterpreting - my references are always a jumping off point! At 60” x 40” this one will keep me engaged for a while - lot’s of details… #debbiecarrollfineart #cowgirlup #siglermuseum #riverviews by @debbiecarroll

Work in progress for an upcoming show! This one is 30” x 48” on an @artefexart panel - am finding these panels are a bit lighter than canvas and have been utilizing them for my larger pieces. Inspired by many stays at a favorite vacation home in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, this was a place that has inspired several pieces over the years! #debbiecarrollfineart #artefex #arroyoseco by @debbiecarroll

Back home and back to work - deadlines looming! 😳 I already have a few shows lined up for the Spring; this piece will be submitted for consideration as part of the @womenartistsofthewest “Tales of the West” show at the @phoenixzoo in Arizona. My subject of choice for this exhibition is the majestic Saguaro Cactus for their importance to the desert ecosystem. All artists are asked to provide a written narrative as well, so I will get to flex my writing skills as well! 💪🏻😉 #debbiecarrollfineart #phoenixzoo #womenartistofthewest #associate by @debbiecarroll

On a personal note, i just attended my high school class reunion held at the renovated Des Plaines Theatre, and highly encourage everyone to go to theirs - it was such a pleasure to reconnect with old time friends and see everyone! I was too busy chatting to get any photos from the event, but did take some photos during our tour of the school of their beautiful art wing - so wish we’d had this back then! We also made it over to my old alma mater, NIU in Dekalb where I went to college. Prettier than I remembered - always loved this old building, Altgeld Hall at the lagoon where I had drawing classes. Fun trip down memory lane! #debbiecarrollfineart taken in Des Plaines, Illinois by @debbiecarroll

Visiting my sister & brother-in-law this weekend to attend my class reunion in Des Plaines - it is always fun to revisit a piece, and here is a favorite of mine, a portrait of their sweet dog Ruby, now a few years older. I did quite a few dog portraits when first starting out and they were always fun to do! #debbiecarrollfineart by @debbiecarroll

Just a bit of a sneak peek for the Terlingua @willowhouse_ portion of our artists talk next week! These are excerpts from our exhibit catalog.....

FYI for my story text in the images...on slide 3...the part in quotes was an excerpt from my journals from my time in Terlingua.

Hope to see you there!

Made a quick trip to Alpine to see the Texas Trappings show at the @museumofthebigbend where we caught up with several artist friends and met some new ones! We stopped in at the V6 Gallery at the @gageresort where I have some of my work and enjoyed a drink and a bite to eat at the White Buffalo Bar. If you’ve never stayed at the Gage, I highly encourage a visit - as I do a visit to Alpine! We thoroughly enjoyed the opening events, demos and beautiful art! Ironically we finally met a fellow Christoval resident, @wilsoncapron whose silversmithing work is truly breathtaking! We also found some time to check out some of our favorite shops in Alpine - @front_street_books and Cheshire Cat Antiques where I spotted this great vintage fringed suede jacket, and yes, I did bring it home with me! 😉 The exhibition is up for several more weeks and there are still some amazing pieces to be had you can view online! My friend @colleen_obrien also has a show there as well showcasing her environmentally themed work from @bigbendnps! #debbiecarrollfineart #thegage #marathon #alpine #museumofthebigbend by @debbiecarroll

Thank you again to everyone who came out to the opening reception for "Desert Dialogue - ghost Ranch to Terlingua". The exhibit presents the paintings inspired by our artist residencies at @ghostranchorg and in Terlingua @willowhouse_

The team at @prudenciagallery did a tremendous job curating and hanging the exhibit. The combination of my work with my gracious collaborator @debbiecarroll look fabulous together. We have similar color choices but different ways of seeing our surroundings. The color is better appreciated in person.

Thank you to the talented @susan_riley_photography for these photos! You really made everyone shine!

Pick up an exhibit catalog when you visit. Artist talk is Friday Oct 2nd 5-7pm.
