Summer is coming, and so are the salads. 🥗

It’s that magical time of year when I convince myself I’m on a diet by putting 1,200 calories worth of food on a bed of lettuce. Skinny legend!

Same calories, different season. 😂

Anyway, I’ve run out of bookish content ideas, so here’s my dinner. The Kindle is there to make this post relevant to my account. Please respect my creativity.

Current read: Vasmora by @kerilake

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve posted just to convince your 2 followers you’re still relevant? Asking for a friend. The friend is me. I’m posting my dinner and at this rate, tomorrow’s content will be a picture of my washing machine with a book balanced on top. 💀 by @debbyscott.reads

It’s Sunday. I went to buy ONE plant, came home with two, decided to repot another two and spent the entire time screaming at the children I willingly brought into this world.

Anyway, my husband is now responsible for keeping all four plants alive and probably the children too, because I’ve done enough nurturing for one day and have some serious reading to catch up on.

#thosepreciousmoments (which has over 1,000 posts?! WTF 😂)

Anyway, how’s your Sunday? Also, someone give me a bookish trend to try because these 800-page books are ruining my posting schedule and apparently I have nothing else interesting to contribute to the internet. 😂 by @debbyscott.reads

Book review : Why mummy drinks on holiday by Gill Sims

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I laughed so hard so many times reading this book! Some of the mum struggles were painfully relatable, and honestly, those moments alone are the reason it’s getting 3 stars.

BUT the plot was pretty absurd, and whiny Ellen really got on my nerves. The whole argument with her best friend Hannah made absolutely no sense to me and dragged on for far too long. The middle of the book also lost its momentum and, more importantly, its humour.

All in all, I did enjoy it! Some moments had me laughing so hard I was genuinely crying. I just wish the book hadn’t tried so hard to have an actual plot. Sometimes all I want is a mum losing her shit on holiday, and that’s entertainment enough. 😂 by @debbyscott.reads

Book review : House of Flame and Shadow @sarahjmaas

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

6 STARS!

I know a lot of people hated this book when it came out, and with all due respect… YOU’RE WRONG. 😂

This book had me hooked from chapter one and did not let go until the very last page. I cried, I laughed, I was shocked, furious, heartbroken and healed, sometimes all within a few chapters. I absolutely INHALED this chonky beast in less than 48 hours, and that should tell you everything.

Book three was everything I felt book two was lacking. Fast-paced, packed with twists, incredible character development and SO MANY MOMENTS that had me losing my mind.

And THE CROSSOVER?! The connections to the other SJM worlds were absolutely brilliant. Yes, technically you don’t have to read the other series, but let’s be serious… YOU ABSOLUTELY DO. Especially ACOTAR. I will not be taking questions. 😂

Lidia, Ruhn, Jesiba, Hypaxia and Aidas were my absolute favourites in this one. WHAT A CAST.

Bryce did annoy me at times, giving me the same frustration Aelin occasionally did in TOG, but I still loved her. Hunt was SO much better in this book than in book two, and I genuinely loved seeing these characters through their struggles, failures, growth and healing.

As for Tharion and Ithan… those two still have a LOT of growing up to do, but I’m actually really excited to see where their stories go and what comes next for this series.

Honestly, I loved every chaotic, emotional, ridiculous second of this book. It’s easily one of my favourite SJM books, and I’m not even remotely sorry about my apparently unpopular opinion.

Book review : Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

⭐️⭐️

I’ll start by saying I LOVE Penelope Douglas. I gave Credence 4.5 stars, so clearly I’m not above some f*cked up sh*t. But this? This was just painful.

The entire book could have been avoided if someone had ONE F*CKING CONVERSATION. Instead, we get hundreds of pages of guys being angry that their actions had consequences. Like??? What did you expect?

This book had so many words and somehow managed to say absolutely nothing. I genuinely think I skimmed most of it just to be done with it.

And Rika… for f*ck’s sake. She wants to be this independent rich girl who’s desperate for a little danger and excitement, but she’s so painfully clueless it’s embarrassing. You want to live on the wild side but can’t even Google the apartment you’re moving into? Be serious.

Michael was about as interesting as watching paint dry. We’re constantly TOLD he’s this irresistible, dangerous guy, but I would have loved to actually see a personality somewhere in there.

Honestly, the only thing worth mentioning is chapter 25. That chapter is single-handedly responsible for the second star.

I don’t need my characters to be good people. I don’t even need them to make good decisions. But I do need an actual plot, some chemistry and a reason to give a sh*t.

2 stars. And I’m being f*cking generous. by @debbyscott.reads

It was @court.betweenpages ’s birthday this week, so naturally, I had to celebrate by binding something inspired by one of her favourite series! 🐉

Because what better birthday present for a book lover than another book? 😂

Book review : Crescent City : House of Sky and Breath by @sarahjmaas

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

I really enjoyed this one! There was SO much going on, with heaps of different storylines slowly coming together, and I loved getting the different POVs and meeting some new characters along the way.

It did feel a little long in places, and Bryce annoyed me more than once 😂 but overall I was completely invested in where the story was going.

Still a massive Ruhn fan and I cannot wait to see more of Daybreak !

And THAT ENDING?!?!?! Excuse me????

Book review : Crescent City : House of Earth and Blood by @sarahjmaas

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I knew I was going to love this book, but I genuinely wasn’t prepared for HOW MUCH I loved it.

I laughed, I cried, I was hooked from page one, and I went to bed far too late several nights because I physically could not put it down!!!

The world-building was incredibly intricate without ever feeling impossible to follow. The different Houses, creatures, politics and layers of this world were SO GOOD. I love urban fantasy, and I already cannot wait to see where this world takes us next.

And BRYCE. What an FMC. I basked in every part of her: her grief, resilience, strength, loyalty, banter and all the messy little pieces that made her her. I absolutely adored her.

Hunt was such a perfectly flawed MMC, but what I loved most was that he was basically one giant green flag when it came to Bryce. He showed up for her. He backed her. He was there when she needed him.

And THANK GOD their relationship didn’t completely implode after three episodes of miscommunication like approximately 97% of fictional relationships. 😂 Their connection actually felt like it was built throughout the book rather than manufactured for drama.

The murder mystery aspect was also so well done and kept me constantly wanting just one more chapter.

And the side characters were GIVING. Danika is everything, and Ruhn Danaan can have me any day. I already know it. No further questions. 🫡

I genuinely don’t have anything bad to say about this one.

5 before the end

Long Shot, June First & The Favourites are 3 of my 12 recs for 2026. I’ve read 6 of the 12 so far and, realistically, I’ll probably read these 3 and call it a day 😂 There are too many other books I want to read and apparently I have no loyalty to goals I set in January.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me has been on my TBR for approximately forever, so it’s time.

And Project Hail Mary needs to happen this year because if I don’t read it while I still have the momentum, I fear it’s going straight back onto the shelf for another 3 years 😂

Speaking of my TBR…

Also I started 2026 with a physical TBR of 214.

I’ve read 84 books.

My physical TBR is now 235.

So that’s going really well.

My birthday is next month too, which I’m sure will help the situation immensely.

Anyway… these 5. Before the end of the year. Surely I can manage that. by @debbyscott.reads

Happy Threshing Day !

Book review : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was exactly what it said it was: 13 stories about Threshing Day from characters we’ve come to know and love throughout the Fourth Wing series and honestly, I had such a good time with it!

The graphics were absolutely STUNNING, and the stories were a mix of emotional, funny and everything in between. I loved getting these little glimpses into different characters and their experiences.

I just know there were hints, Easter eggs and foreshadowing staring me directly in the face, and I blissfully understood none of them. 😂 I’ll leave the decoding to the Fourth Wing detectives and watch their 47minutes theory videos later like, “OMG YES, IT WAS SO OBVIOUS.”

Such a fun addition to the series and definitely worth the read for Fourth Wing fans! by @debbyscott.reads

A 3.44⭐️ average which feels… accurate 😂 Some absolute bangers, some pleasant surprises, and a couple that really tested my commitment to finishing what I start.

I laughed, I cried, I stayed up way too late reading, and I rolled my eyes enough to count as exercise. A well-rounded reading month, really.

Now onto October, where I will once again pretend my TBR is remotely achievable. 🤡
