Half City and Cursed City books 1 and 2 of the Harker Academy series by @kategoldenauthor

I really enjoyed book 1 when I read it earlier this year and have been impatiently waiting for book 2

Book 1 was really fun and I loved the Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes, with the found family, enemies to lovers and forbidden love tropes

I don’t know if I’m going to be able to wait for our buddy of book 2 @nzbookfae @debbyscott.reads and @ambers_bookish_escape 🫣 I don’t know if I’m going to be able to wait for more Deacon 🫢

Who is this reader trying new genres this year 😂 also i now have 2 books AND an audiobook on the go 🤯 whhhhhhy do i do this to myself 🤣🤣

Anyways.

Starting my annotating thriller circle read tonight, my first time reading a thriller book and im hoping it sucks me in, I looooove guessing whats going to happen and I hope this one has a good end result. I also ordered my book online....and got sent a small paperback...soooooo good luck everyone trying to write in it 😂

Have you branched out from your usual genre recently? I read (and loved) a recent sci fi binge on the Red Rising first trilogy 🥰

ＪｕｎｅＨｏｐｅｆｕｌｓ ♡

The past few months have been some of the hardest we as a family have been through.
What i really want for June is just some sort of peace.

I hope I can read all of these books but thats probably not going to happen, and thats okay.
Life has been very tough and my books help me get out of my head for those 350-720 pages.
I know a lot of us are going through some things at the moment, but I hope your June is a good one with lots of great books and beautiful moments 🖤

Flight & Glory Series

This month I did a buddy read of this series with @debbyscott.reads
I’ve read all of Rebecca Yarros’ other books, and I have to say these definitely rank among my least favourites. This was her first published series, and although I did still enjoy almost every book, her writing has definitely grown a lot, and I would recommend trying one of her newer books.

Ranking & Mini Reviews:

1. The reality of everything (book 5) 4.5⭐️
I loved both the characters in this book, and the portrayal of complicated grief and therapy was done so well.

2. Full Measures (book 1) 3.5⭐️
I liked the emotional depth to the story and focus on grief, however I found the romance between the characters to be lacking.

3. Eyes turned skyward (book 2) 3.5⭐️
I enjoyed the romance, but the main plot was the characters keeping secrets from each other which got boring. There was a little too much happening which meant some components of the story weren’t as explored as deeply as I would have liked.

4. Beyond what is given (book 3) 3⭐️
I loved the first half of this book and then it all just fell apart for me.. it felt like a soap opera with the amount of drama that got added.

5. Hallowed ground (book 4) 2.5⭐️
I liked the idea of this book - realistic exploration of how military trauma affects mental health and self esteem. However I didn’t enjoy the execution - everything was resolved too neatly with no explanation, and the entire book was miscommunication on repeat.
