Working on a piece I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Saw these hollyhocks with backlighting a year ago. Did a small version but thought it would work as a larger painting. 12x24”
Work-in-Progress photos… just because they are interesting. Not likely to leave a lot of the red under painting showing, but enjoying the effect for the moment. (Small version on the side) by @deborah.allison

Took those sunflowers and perked them up by adding brights in strategic areas. Sometimes you just have to go back and touch it up. by @deborah.allison

More classes, demos and finishing my piece.
Subject was “simple” still-life from life in relatively neutral colors. Studying shapes and values with a direct light source.

Gosh, I love painting! by @deborah.allison

Another fun class demo. Lovely to work from live sunflowers from our farmers market!

How did I miss this?

“Dear Deborah,

Congratulations! Your painting, "Nostalgia", was selected as part of the FAV15% (jury's favorite 15% of the entries) in the June 2026 BoldBrush Painting competition.”

I really do appreciate all those folks on the jury who liked my piece.

Started this piece as a class demonstration and finished it later. A nice project, fresh colors.
