Some highlight moments from our showing this past weekend. Huge thank you again to everyone it takes to make these events happen. From the trial staff and volunteers to the competitors, judges, and especially the decoys who put it all on the line to test the dogs and let them rip on the field. We couldn't do it without you. Thank you @hay_avery for the awesome pictures! by @decoy.kev
Leeroy and I earned a leg toward our PSA 1 this past weekend at the @dirtybandanaworkingdogs trial! Going into this show, I was nervous. Leeroy is an incredibly impulsive dog, and that's something we've been working on for a long time and will continue to work on. Being the dog he is, his name "Leeroy Jenkins" really does describe his personality perfectly, and at times it feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy because we chose that name. Seeing all the hard work come together on trial day was incredibly rewarding. This journey wouldn't have been possible without so many people. @bray.n.dogs , has spent countless hours helping build Leeroy's foundations, stepping in when I couldn't train, and even putting on a suit to keep him honest for neutrality work. My club, @ultimatek9bodyguards, has been there every step of the way, providing support, guidance, and honest feedback. A special thank you to @showtimeshaunt for building such a wild child and trusting me with a dog that would challenge me as both a trainer and a handler. And to the countless decoys, trainers, and friends who have helped us along the way, thank you for the time, knowledge, and effort you've invested in our team. Not only did we earn our leg, but Leeroy also took home: 1st Place Level 1 High in Trial High in Protection High Owner Trained High Owner Trained Club Dog All while finishing with a score of 310/320. Thank you @1excelk9 for the judging, it was an Honor to show under you, thank you all decoys who tested lemon, without you this doesn't happen! I couldn't be happier with my little 🍋 and the performance he gave me this weekend. Moments like these make all the early mornings, training sessions, successes, and setbacks worth it. A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. It truly takes a village, and we're incredibly grateful for ours. Now let's do it again, buddy... then on to the 2s! by @decoy.kev

Senua is testing out and breaking in the new @rok9__mexico leg cuff. She waited patiently as Kev sewed it onto is old trial suit pants, there was much rage, especially because she is in prime heat right now. 🤣 by @decoy.kev

Sometimes the biggest wins in dog training aren’t the ones anyone else would notice. ❤️ Something people don’t know about Essie is that we struggle with drive dipping. She wants SO badly to be right that when she’s unsure, she shuts down. Her confidence disappears, she creeps, and all that beautiful drive just vanishes. For a year, I’ve been learning how to navigate this, especially in our directionals. Today at club, an exercise we’d successfully worked on ALL week immediately caused her to drive dip. I put her away because I was getting frustrated, and I refuse to train that way. After another club member trained, I simplified the exercise and tried again. BAM. Another drive dip. I took a breath, remembered my coach’s advice (and the countless reminders to STOP overthinking 😂), grabbed a leash, and made a decision. I wasn’t going to be her cheerleader. I was going to be her clarity. I KNEW she understood this exercise. She needed me to confidently help her work through the uncertainty. And by the end of that rep, we were successful. Why share this? Because I want to be an honest trainer. Just because Essie is a Malinois, a sport dog, and I train professionally doesn’t mean this journey is easy. This dog is taking every ounce of knowledge I have and asking me to become better. She’s challenged me, frustrated me, and forced me to rethink things I thought I understood. But today something I’ve spent YEARS learning finally clicked. Not every difficult moment requires you to cheer your dog on. Sometimes they need you to be their clarity. And for once, I made that decision at exactly the right moment. To some, one successful rep means nothing. To me? It was a year of mistakes, learning, and listening to my coaches finally coming together. I didn’t just see progress in my dog today. I saw progress in myself as her trainer. Essie may never be the easiest dog I build, but she might teach me the most. I’m trying to build her into an incredible sport dog, but somewhere along the way, she’s building me into a better trainer. And I’m so damn proud of both of us. That’s my win today. ❤️🐾 . . . 📸 @kat.shoot by @decoy.kev

• Another awesome weekend of training with some truly great people! Surround yourself with people who are constantly striving to be better—not just for themselves, but for everyone around them. People who are genuinely invested in each other’s success, who push one another to improve, share their knowledge, and celebrate each other’s progress. That’s what this community is all about. It’s more than just training dogs. It’s about building relationships, supporting one another, and growing together. When one of us succeeds, we all win. A huge thank you once again to @decoy.kev and @bray.n.dogs of @concise.k9 for making the trip out, sharing your knowledge, and helping us get one step closer to our PSA goals! And a special thanks to @beautiful_chaos_life_ and @grazingongratitude_, along with everyone involved in organizing and hosting, for providing such an awesome venue and making this weekend possible. Good dogs. Great people. Strong community. 🤘🐾 Already looking forward to the next one! by @decoy.kev
The special thing about Decoying to me is, one day I'll be too old and broken to do it. So I never want to think "I wish I worked that dog when I had the chance". Thanks so much @concise.k9 (@bray.n.dogs and @decoy.kev ) for letting me work this Sassy girl! This session made the hiking I did for the next week a bit tender! She was a monster biting on my shin. You have a special girl here! by @decoy.kev
