The DECR, in partnership with Expertise France, Green Overseas, the European Union, and Insight Decision, is inviting residents across the Turks and Caicos Islands to participate in a nationwide Public Climate Survey as part of the development of the country’s climate change planning and resilience initiatives.
Climate change is already affecting communities throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands through stronger storms, coastal erosion, flooding, rising temperatures, water scarcity, and changing weather patterns. Understanding how these changes impact people’s daily lives is essential to developing practical, community-driven solutions that strengthen the country’s resilience.

The survey:
✅Takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.
✅Is completely anonymous.
✅Is open to all residents of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Residents can participate by scanning the QR code displayed on official DECR promotional materials.

⚠️ ATTENTION SEAFARERS ⚠️

TCIAA, DECR, and TC Reef Fund are deploying meteorological ocean monitoring buoys around the Turks and Caicos Islands as part of a regional project. These buoys will help provide the TCI community with more accurate sea conditions and marine weather information.

Please do NOT tie up to these buoys — they are not moorings.

The #JuniorParkWarden programme 2026 is now open for registration! The #DECR welcomes school age students to register for our summer camp this July 2026. Learn about TCI's ecology, #explore the outdoor environments, and build up your skills with fun and exciting activities.

Today #DECR celebrated #WorldOceanDay with a Beach Clean-up and Swim Lessons. Today’s clean-up efforts were used to highlight how small waste, like bottle caps, cigarette butts, and glass pieces are often still prevalent in the environment after routine cleaning efforts.

Today with the support of our amazing volunteers, we were able to collect 65 pounds of trash, totalling to about 1,429 pieces; of which 181 (13%) were cigarette butts, 239 (17%) were plastic bottle caps, and 581 (40%) were metal bottle caps. These small wastes are often buried under the sand, blown about in the wind, lost amongst the beach vegetation, or intentionally left in picnic areas. We encourage persons to be conscious of their waste, because these bits may cause harm to other beach goers, wildlife, and plants.

The swim lessons went well with excellent tutelage from the #RaceForTheConch team, and the participants felt much more confident in the water.

The #DECR invites you to join in our celebration of #WorldOceanDay, this Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the #BightPark, #Providenciales. Participants are welcomed to arrive at 7:30 am to join a #Beach Cleanup (8 am to 9 am); and join FREE swim lessons between 9 am and 12 pm. Register using the QR Code to reserve your spot during the swim lessons.

Participants under 16 years old will take part in the first half of the morning (~9 am – 10:30 am), followed by participants over 16 in the second half (~10:30 am to 12 pm).

The theme for this #WorldWetlandsDay is “Wetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage”

We know that Wetlands like Mangrove Swamps, Ponds, Salt Flats, Creeks, and Low-Lying Forests (like the Pine Forests) have been a part of Turks and Caicos Islands history and culture for decades. There are stories, lived experiences, and current activities which range from Ramblin’, Fishing, Catching Land Crab, Salt production, using Thatch Palm Tree Fruits to make wines and jams, and coal production. Over the years, TCI has encouraged Eco-tourism like guided Tours, Bird Watching, and non-motorized Watersports as avenues for persons to share in the rich history of the islands.

The DECR and our project partners in the Marine Conservation Society are preparing to engage with the TCI community members and talk about the marine environment under our shared project “Making Marine Parks Matter in the Turks and Caicos Islands”.

Together we will produce a Community Voice Method film to answer some of the following questions: How do the people of the TCI value our seas? What do people of the TCI think about the marine National Parks? Can marine National Parks better meet the needs of TCI communities?
.
The project team members are expected to visit the following islands throughout the next 4 weeks:
• North Caicos & Middle Caicos (12 - 17 January)
• Grand Turk & Salt Cay (19 - 24 January)
• Providenciales (26 - 31 January)
• South Caicos (2 - 7 February)
.

The Turks and Caicos’ Government is collaborating with the Blue Belt Programme to embark on a new and exciting marine research project!

The RRS James Cook (a British Royal Research Ship operated by the Natural Environment Research Council [NERC]) is scheduled to operate within the Turks and Caicos territorial waters January 30th to February 10th, 2026. The local and international research teams aboard will be conducting intense and fruitful research to appreciate the underwater topography, marine flora and fauna, and the physio-chemical properties of the deep-sea ecosystem.
•Map the seafloor in waters approximately 300 m or deeper
•Identify and record marine flora and fauna
•Analyse the physio-chemical properties of the deep-sea ecosystem

The Nassau Grouper (Epinephelus striatus) is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN due to a steep population decline. The global population has declined by about 60% over the last three generations (~ 30 years).
The closed season gives the #NassauGrouper a chance to reproduce.
The #DECR appeals to citizens, residents and visitors in the Turks & Caicos Islands, to familiarise themselves with and to uphold the Fisheries Regulations, and urges all responsible citizens to call and report any violations.
