It’s been a couple of months since he was legally required to be my best friend. For a brief moment in time, in what already feels like ages ago, things felt normal. While it wasn’t how we originally planned things to go, it was the perfect day. I just want to say thank you to our friends and family, for all the love, support, the well wishes. 100 supporters and allies. One very full room. A whole lot of history, heart, science—and disco. At last night’s #LegacyProject Ottawa Take Off to Pride, Mayor @_marksutcliffe took us back to the early days of HIV/AIDS in Ottawa, including the story of Peter Evans, who became the first person in Canada to speak openly about living with AIDS in 1983. Susan Margles reminded us why we were there: “We move people; CANFAR moves the science.” Sonya Shorey spoke about belonging and the generations who will benefit from CANFAR’s work. And Patrick O’Byrne (@getakit.ca) reflected on how far HIV prevention has come — from sero-sorting 25 years ago to PrEP, PEP and more options today. His reminder: “We have to remember how we got here.” Then @j3msings brought the disco sparkle and declared: “There ain’t no party like a CANFAR party.” ✨ DJ @realjcinott kept the good vibes going with an energetic set throughout the evening! Huge congrats to Charles, Julien and Kevin on their door prizes, and thank you @porterairlines, @aircanada, @fairmontqueene, and @pitbullevents for their generous donations. On Christmas Eve, heaven got a beautiful gift. Grandma was everything I could want in a grandmother. She was so loving, patient, caring, supportive and incredibly sharp, even at 103. I am incredibly lucky to have so many precious memories with her. She helped me when I had a hard time at school, watched me play in the school yard at recess, always wanted to talk politics and encouraged me in everything I did. I know that she couldn’t stay with us forever, but I still miss her so much. I love you forever grandma ❤️ by @deegee_ott

Yesterday we set the @guinnessworldrecords title for the World’s Largest Awareness Ribbon Mosaic made of awareness ribbons! This new record needed a surface area of 25 square meters, and we measured in at 29.706 meters squared! Over 19,500 awareness ribbons were used, including over 16,000 representing every Canadian living with HIV but not yet connected to care. This beautiful mosaic is on display at Snider Plaza in @centretownottawa until #WorldAIDSDay for everyone to stop, reflect and remember that HIV is still here. Thank you to everyone who came out to support this endeavour and help us spread the word about the #MyRedRibbon campaign for World AIDS Day.
