Stop Wars 🛑
.
.
We don't really need to agree all the time, as long as we agree on the ground rules of how we will disagree.
.
To me those ground rules should be humanity and morality. Within those rules we can happily disagree. As long as the fundamental rights, right to live and thrive for a person is not challenged.
.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has killed a total of 1,982 Civilians and injured 2,651 Civilians as of April 15th, according to Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. According to the UN refugee agency, ten million people or about a quarter of the population, have been displaced; of that, nearly four million have fled to neighboring countries. Many of those displaced are particularly vulnerable, pregnant and breastfeeding women, elderly persons, those with disabilities, chronic illnesses and people directly affected by violence. On an average, there are 2 attacks on healthcare facilities everyday. Many Russian attacks have hit highly populated areas, causing civilians to seek refuge in subway stations and leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity, water, or basic supplies.

When I curiously googled Prada Marfa, it did not disappoint my curiosity 😁

Its a pop art installation of a Prada shop by @elmgreenanddragsetstudio in the middle of "nowhere" in Texas deserts. The shop, whose doors are always locked, houses actual Prada wares, shoes and handbags, picked out and provided by Miuccia Prada from the fall/winter 2005 collection.

Prada Marfa has attracted many tourists and celebrities. It has been vandalized and restored many times since installed. Visitors put locks on the little fence around the shop as a remembrance. Check out artist page to see jump shot of Beyoncé in front of Prada Marfa.

"Release" 2014, a beautiful 3 story mural of pair of hands releasing birds as a symbol of Freedom and Hope. Mural was done by renowned artist 🎨@james_bullough to support cause and raise awareness for @handlewithcareproject 📍353 Singleton Blvd

Art is a beautiful thing 🎉 It brings joy, brings people together, encourages creativity and much more. Art can play a significant role in sociopolitical movements as we have seen and in times of crisis, struggles and problems, it can often be a strong motivator for change.

#handlewithcare is a Dallas based organization with a mission to raise awareness about the human trafficking problem and to fight human injustice with art. As a result of poor media coverage this issue is much larger than most people know.

After picking the initial design for this project, James started researching local birds to the Dallas region and came across a particularly beautiful bird which gave much larger meaning to the subject, called a Vermillion Flycatcher. When in captivity, Vermilion Flycatchers’ rich colors begin to dull, and eventually turn to grey, as they are restricted the proper environment they need to strive, that's why they are rarely found birds in zoos or aviaries. James told Widewalls Magazine that, In this work, each bird would become more colorful the further it flew away from the hands.🕊

When I was looking up in Google for some insights of this piece, a news article at the top got me curious, "Art installations aim to reduce stress, increase hope at Houston hospitals"

Jean Baptiste was one of many Houston artists who were devastated when the coronavirus caused the cancellation of 2020’s Bayou City Art Festival. A proxy offer was if festival artists would instead be interested in showcasing their work in area hospitals as HCA Houston Healthcare partnered with Bayou City Art Festival to create "HeART for Heroes" - a program showcasing art to brighten the days of nurses, doctors and other staff members working through the pandemic.

Jn Baptiste took the opportunity and selected Women's hospital of Texas. Jn Baptiste is one of seven area artists with artwork now hanging in HCA Houston hospitals through HeART for Heroes. They have all created temporary exhibits or donated work to Woman’s Hospital of Texas and HCA Houston Healthcare centers.

HCA Houston Healthcare chief nurse executive Kelli Nations said, “Viewing art reduces stress and anxiety. Now, everyone can take a moment and see something beautiful.”

"One day as a tiger is worth a thousand as a sheep", a chinese proverb and requoted by many. Well, weighing nearly 1,000 pounds, the tiger is the largest from the family of cats and has one of the strongest bites in the animal kingdom 😼 Primarily nocturnal, the tiger is known to be a stealthy hunter. Because they are the apex predators of their domains, tigers are considered to be the king of all animals. The tiger is an independent animal. In fact, they are far more elusive than lions, who live in large family groups called pride.

In the kingdom of spirit animals ✨ The Tiger puts a special emphasis on raw feelings and emotions. The primary meaning of the tiger spirit animal is willpower, personal strength and courage. The Tiger is associated with both positive and negative meanings like, shadows or part of you that you would normally try to hide or reject; Aggression or anger directed at you or felt towards someone; Unpredictability in life, actions or feelings. The Tiger represents a symbolic release of fears and standing for truth, justice, and integrity. Stay strong like a Tiger 💪

Legend of The Volcanoes ⏳ #velazquez_art_ 🎨
.
.
.
A mural recreation of legendary Mexican Artist Jesús Helguera's very beautiful painting "Grandeza Azteca" which portrays a remarkable tale of Aztec Mythology by talented artist 🎨 @velazquez_art_ 📍1808 S Edgefield Ave
.
.
According to the legend, at the beginning of history, when the Aztecs arrived in the Valley of Anahuac, before the mountains had reached their permanent form, a beautiful princess named Mixtli (or name Iztaccíhuatl in some legends) was born, in the city of Tenochtitlan. She was the daughter of Tizoc, the Tlatoani Emperor of the Mexicas. Mixtli was sought after by numerous noblemen, among them Axooxco, a cruel and bloodthirsty man, who demanded the hand of Mixtli in marriage. However, Mixtli's heart belonged instead to a humble peasant named Popoca. Popoca went into battle, to conquer the title of Caballero Aguila. If he claimed this title of nobility, Popoca would be able to fight Axooxco for the hand of Mixtli.
.
.
Mixtli knew the danger Popoca was in, and then, wrongly, was informed that he was killed. But in fact, Popoca was returning victorious. Not realizing this, Mixtli killed herself, rather than live without Popoca. When Popoca returned to find Mixtli dead, he picked her up and carried her body into the mountains. Hoping that the cold snow would wake her from sleep, reuniting them alive, Popoca stayed at her feet, bent over, watching for her to come awake.
.
.
They have remained there ever since, and the body of Mixtli has become the volcano Ixtaccihuatl (the Sleeping Woman). The ever-watchful Popoca has become the volcano Popocatépetl (the Smoking Mountain), and Axooxco has become the Cerro Ajusco (the highpoint of the Mexico City).🌋

Artistic Storm 🌪 #eyeconstudios 🎨
.
.
.
"The Storm" 1997 is a staggering 150 feet wide and 120 feet tall -12 story mural by artists 🎨 Jeff Garrison and Chris Arnold from @eyeconstudios which portrays about 40 local artists trying to make it in the industry 📍751 Leonard st
.
.
🎨 Jeff Garrison and Chris Arnold met as freshman roommates at the Columbus College of Art & Design. After graduation, they both ended up in Dallas painting backdrops for operas and musicals. In 1992, they decided they were destined for even bigger things, so the pair founded Eyecon Studios. This mural is the result of a Downtown Improvement District competition that Eyecon Studios won.

In an interview, Arnold said, "The title of The Storm is a metaphor for the creative process, The storm gathers when you have an assignment or a piece you want to execute. You get into this tumultuous state of mind. Staring at that blank canvas, anxiety mounts up, and then it starts clicking, and that’s the center of the storm. That’s where we get this passion, this fire swirling."

The Conductor portrayed in this mural is Arnold's dad. In that interview Arnold said, "He was totally blown away by the idea. He fit the bill because all the people represented are local, and they’re people who were currently practicing their craft. Dad’s been a music teacher at Leslie A. Stemmons Elementary School his whole life and a conductor. He was really excited about all those aspects."

Esperanza 🎶 #bramblitt 🎨
.
.
.
So for months I had this word La Esperanza whirling around in my mind, which means Hope or Expectation. I wanted to translate it into a meaning that I can understand and into a work that can remind me to try and seek beauty and hope in every situation. The pieces all fell into place during an early morning weekend wander in Bishop Arts District when I luckily stumbled upon a beautiful artwork and slammed the brake with 😯 face.
.
.
This beautiful #muralart is painted by 🎨 John Bramblitt @bramblitt who is currently the only Blind Muralist in the world. He painted this mural back in 2019 with @dallasmuseumart 📍@bishophighline under heavy rain situations.
.
.
When Bramblitt lost the last of his vision in 2001 due to complications with epilepsy and Lyme's disease, his hopes of becoming a creative writing teacher were shattered and he sunk into a deep depression. He felt disconnected from family and friends, alienated and alone. But then something amazing happened- he discovered painting. He learned to distinguish between different colored paints by feeling their textures with his fingers. He taught himself how to paint using raised lines to help him find his way around the canvas, and through something called haptic visualization, which enables him to "see" his subjects through touch. He now paints amazingly lifelike portraits of people he's never seen--including his wife and son. Bramblitt's art has gone to over 120 countries around the world, and he is known for his interactive speaking events, lectures, and free art workshops where everyone paints together no matter their ability or disability. Bramblitt is also the author of award winning book, Shouting in the Dark.
.
.
I hope this piece serves as a little reminder to seek the good things, the beauty and the happiness. To embrace those crooked lines, torn edges and imperfections in life. A representation for creating something beautiful out of our mistakes, embracing the truth that things are rarely perfect and realising imperfection is often what makes something or someone so special in the first place.
