Another September 26th has come and gone. Another trip around the sun. A successful b-day weekend in the books. Your boy has hit year 48. After an eventful night of bar hopping (four spots! what??!), the wife and kids let me sleep past 9am on Saturday, made breakfast and presented me w/ my first ever authentic NBA jersey. You already know the vibes. Shouts to @vaness179 for enabling my rabid fandom. This weekend also marked 12 years married to my better half. Thank you for everything my luv! Cheers to many more date nights and great days in our future. ❤️ 🥂

School starts on Monday. We got a 2nd and 5th grader on deck. And as expected, the back half of summer came and went in breakneck speed. Here’s what that looked like. We did everything we could to slow it down. Mind you, it’s about to be 100+ degrees this coming week in the San Gabriel Valley so I don’t even know what to think anymore. 🥵 by @deephunk

July has been a busy one. One family road trip to Vegas eleven deep to celebrate @verofrausto’s bday (it was very hot) and a solo road trip the very next weekend for @nbasummerleague (even hotter than the previous visit). No regrets!

A quick summery summary of hazy memories: Mexico lost in the World Cup but it was an experience regardless. The @mjonelv show had the kids locked all the way in. The food at the @mandalaybay pool was surprisingly good. I can’t stay up late like I used to.

Knicks lost. The outcome of the McGregor/Holloway fight (main event over in 20 seconds) had the right wing bros in a tizzy. Missed @allan_houston at the @knicksfantv x @knickfilmskool x @leftcoastknicks meetup bc of the traffic the aforementioned UFC fight generated. Still got to kick it w/ the crew. Fireworks. Money. My first time traveling somewhere that requires passport since the early 2010s. My first time in Central America. My first time on a tropical vacation w/ the family since 2021. And everything is wildly expensive. But @vaness179 was determined. And it turned out to be an amazing experience.

We’re back home from Costa Rica kinda wishing we had never left. Breezy sunrises, humid sunsets, daily breakfast buffets, restless oceans, muddy ATV rides, river cruises, fresh pineapple, $4 draft Imperials… I mean what else can you ask for?

Seven nights in paradise. Guanacaste to be exact. We were almost teleporting. Tamarindo. Puerto Viejo. Las Catalinas. Playa Portrero. Playa Danta. Playa Flamingo. Plus I’ve never watched more soccer in my life. We’re still knocking the sand out of our suitcases and tending to sunburns but it was all worth it. What a way to set off the summer.

And extra big shouts to @da.moga for all the hospitality and all the knowledge dropped on our last couple of nights plus the ride to the airport early this morning. You’re the MVP, bro. taken in Guanacaste, Costa Rica by @deephunk

Last night was a fever dream. I knew I wasn’t gonna make it to @33taps to be w/ the @leftcoastknicks massive for this momentous occasion. And I wasn’t gonna watch it at home by myself. @the.queen.mari and Jeremy had already scheduled an end-of-school year bbq. A celebration of all our kids moving on up and a deep exhale for the parents. But they understood the weight of what I was dealing with. I don’t shut up about it. They were kind enough to co-opt the celebration and set up a projector in their backyard so I could witness history. Many cold beers were on deck. (There’s video of my reaction if you keep swiping.)

FIT CHECK: hat is an authentic @starterofficial cap from the ‘90s that I purchased at a vintage store when I first moved to LA bc I was homesick. It was very reasonably priced bc no one in LA wanted a Knicks hat in 2017. The shirt is an old @halloffameltd tee that I copped on Fairfax on a visit prior to moving here. Nike React Element ‘87s (Knicks colorway) on feet. And that’s my dad’s Seiko on my wrist. I wish he coulda been here to witness this. He would have enjoyed it. 🙏🏾

You don’t even have to be into sports to understand and appreciate what the Knicks accomplished. A championship after 53 years? The third in franchise history? Jalen Brunson tying Michael Jordan for most points in a close out game (45 pts)? All amazing stats. But it’s the perseverance of it all. I’ve never had more FOMO since moving to LA than I do right now but I love everyone that helps provide me w/ community to give me even a little bit of that feeling. 💙🧡💙🧡💙

You can take the kid out of New York but…

Party people — we have a 10 year old (as of Sunday) and a 7-year old (as of Monday). The Gemini Twins aka C+C Moody Factory aka East Coast/West Coast Beef aka our little loves Celine and Cairo celebrated another trip around the sun this week. I can’t explain the science but it’s a fact that when you become a parent, time speeds up anywhere from 1.5 to 2x faster than normal. And the only thing you can do to preserve is to take as many photos as you can. Cheers to them. And an extra shout to @vaness179 bc she deserves it. by @deephunk

The scene yesterday at @33taps on Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake after the Knicks dogwalked the Cavs and punched their ticket to the 2026 NBA Finals. It was pandemonium. The last time this happened I lived in Long Island and just about finished up my senior year of college at LIU C.W. Post.

I’m now in my late 40s, a washed husband w/ thinning hair, a dad twice over, and a resident of Los Angeles. And thanks to @leftcoastknicks making this venue the official home of NYC transplant Knicks fans, I can safely say that I have located yet another tribe. Grown adults were teary-eyed, bar servers were snaking through the crowd like a game of Dig Dug, strangers were hugging each other… people were sharing pitchers of beers w/ ppl they’ve never met in their life… just unbridled fanaticism and joy bound together by the orange and blue.

I’ve been to the bar several times but it was never like it was yesterday. I’m surprised I still have my voice. Shouts to @culturama and @andre.almero for what they’ve built here. It’s still fascinating to see every time.

As the saying goes — the job’s not done. But please pardon us as we celebrate obnoxiously just a little bit longer. (Four more. We need four more.) taken in 33 Taps by @deephunk

Big happy Mother’s Day to @vaness179 who is pretty simple. All she wanted was her usual: breakfast in bed and Bravo on TV. But she also wanted some peace and quiet. And she deserved it. So while she kept it low, got a massage and her eyebrows done, I threw the kids in the van, and headed to @33taps in Silver Lake to witness the Knicks sweep the Sixers. (Shouts to the @leftcoastknicks crew as always.) Everybody wins. by @deephunk

It didn’t really hit me all the way until I landed in New York. @donutsareforever was happening for the 20th time. An idea that came up amongst four friends, a tribe called @rareformnyc, in a Bed-Stuy parlor apartment in 2006 and executed for the first time in 2007. Just because we were nerds and wanted to hear this specific music on big speakers w/ our friends and simultaneously pay homage to a guy who helped shaped the sound of our young adulthood.

Life has taken us all in very different paths yet we manage to still find the time to be involved w/ @buildingbeats producing a stellar event to pay tribute to one James “J Dilla” Yancey. This is the longest running annual tribute to Jay Dee in the world.

Big shouts to everyone who has ever bought a ticket, spun a set, hosted for us, and assisted us in any way over the years. (Especially @questlove, @freshoffthepressnyc, @lovejessica.xo, @danabartle, @_mawkus_, @krithimusic, @dcharnas and @maratberenstein.)

That was the main reason for the trip. To take in all of that and be present in it. That led to reunions. And laughs. And big hugs. And talking really loud. New York was alive that night. And pretty much for my very rapid three days and three night visit. Thank you for all the warmth literally and figuratively.

Sitting here on the couch nursing an ankle I twisted playing ball this morning. Figured it would be a good time to throw up these recent Spring Break pics.

We packed the van and hit the road w/ stops in Buellton, Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur and San Luis Obispo. Kept it hella coastal.

Still learning about all that California has to offer. This was our first time driving down the 1/PCH. Roughly two hours w/o cell service, one lane cliffside and foggy. Precarious! But so breathtaking. Kinda didn’t want to come back home. But we’re back to school tomorrow. Womp womp. Another successful respite. by @deephunk

If you told me back in 2007 when we put together the first ever @donutsareforever that we would go on to do it 19 more times, I would have probably laughed in your face. I don’t even live in New York anymore. I have a wife, two kids and a mortgage now. But each year would inform how the following year would blossom. The people kept coming so we kept producing. So much help from friends and friends of friends… so much community support. How could we not? @rareformnyc may not be as heavy in the streets as we used to be but this one gathering is too important.

With all that being said, we pushed the milestone 20th edition of DAF to the Spring for you. No frigid temps this year. We hollered at the homie @questlove to make his first appearance since DAF4 in 2010. We snagged our guy @djspinna whom I believe is gracing us for the fourth time if I’m not mistaken. @djtaranyc and @dj_bles_sed will be providing the space w/ plenty of warm vibes and ear candy. Now all we need is you. Saturday, April 18, @bricbrooklyn.

I’m gonna be there, btw. It’ll be my first time at a DAF since I left NY. And I’ll probably doing a lot of what you see in that second photo if you swipe left. Just less hair. Same nerd though. We’re doing it for Dilla, y’all. All your ticket proceeds go to benefit @buildingbeats in their ongoing mission to provide music education programs to underserved high school youth.

Extra big shouts to @krithimusic, @dcharnas and @maratberenstein for all their assistance this go-round. Y’all are champions. Let’s celebrate.

Mom and Dad are back home after a quick road trip up north. After we dropped the kids off at school on Friday morning, we SKRRRRT’d 🚗💨 out of the parking lot and hit the 5 Freeway. Made a stop at Cass Winery in Paso Robles for lunch and a wine tasting (thx for the rec @marnizzy!) and continued up the 101 to kick it in SF and Oakland for a couple nights. It was such a good recharge seeing all the homies, eating good, laughing controllably and unplugging a little bit.

And of course, big happy bday to @livinproofsf, a genuinely good human being. You can always tell everything about a person by the company they keep. Shouts to everyone we got to hug and hold. In the times we live in, we need it more than ever. The gas was too damn high but it was worth it. by @deephunk
