. In Polymorphae Incognita, the natural world is neither stable nor predictable. It is a force of perpetual invention, where forms emerge, mutate and reconfigure in an endless negotiation between order and disorder. These enigmatic sculptures, with their twisting limbs, improbable balances and strange, branching anatomies, appear caught mid-evolution; embodying the restless energy of life in a constant state of becoming. Lea Ferris’ new exhibition is a celebration of nature’s unruly inventiveness. These sculptures remind us that we are not separate from this intelligence, but participants in it. To survive, the works suggest, is to remain open to transformation - to find balance without stillness, and to dance with the unknown. . It's always a joy to see an artist at work in their studio. And none more so than Peter Godwin. His new exhibition, Studio and Mountains opened on Saturday and will continue until 14 November. The exhibition offers an intimate encounter with Godwin's working world. Through restrained colour, delicate mark-making and an acute sensitivity to light, the studio becomes more than a physical setting. These paintings ask us to look slowly, attending to the subtle relationships between objects, images and the light that holds them together. Opening Saturday 24th October is Peter Godwin’s solo exhibition, “Studio and Mountains” at Defiance Gallery, Sydney. “Peter Godwin’s paintings depict quiet interiors and still lifes, which whisper to us with great intensity. His works also speak of an artist who is constantly searching for some intangible sense of authentic expression within his practice.” Tai Mitsuji in Artist Profile Issue 60. . DAVID COLLINS Mangrove 24 September - 17 October 2026 View the full exhibition via the link in our bio, but as always, better seen in the flesh. Beautiful work, as always, from David Collins. Mangrove Edge oil on canvas 100 x 120 cm, 102 x 122 cm (framed) David Collins’ work offers a contemplative engagement with landscape, drawing attention to its subtle textures, patterns and rhythms. Through a fluid and expressive painterly language, the works remain open between observation and abstraction, memory and immediate experience. In celebrating the mangroves of the lower Hawkesbury, Collins presents more than a series of landscape paintings. These works are an invitation to look closely and consider the intricate relationships that sustain these vital living communities. #defiancegallery #sydneygalleries #contemporaryart #australianartgallery #artistprofile by @defiancegallery
. KYLE MURRELL About the House 24 September - 17 October 2026 Just 10 days left to see Kyle Murrell’s extraordinary exhibition. One of the stand out exhibitions in Sydney at the moment. Don’t just take our word for it! A must see. Vestibule oil on linen 152 x 122 cm, 155 x 125 cm (framed) View the full exhibition via the link in our bio, but as always, better seen in the flesh. “I think of the paintings as accumulations of moments rather than records of a single one. They are built, covered, scraped back and returned to. A decision made one night can disappear the next morning. Something removed can become as important as something added. I leave the studio, go upstairs, come back down and see the painting differently. The interruption becomes part of its duration. There are other crossings between the two spaces. Dirt and unswept leaves find their way into the studio; little pieces of dried paint inevitably find their way upstairs. Around the house are stairs, corners, nooks, passages of light, plants that need tending and paths worn through repetition. None of these things are subjects for the paintings, but they belong to the conditions in which the work has been made. Perhaps that exchange is what has interested me most while making this body of work. The studio enters the house and the house enters the studio. Painting happens somewhere. It takes time, and that time is lived alongside everything else.” Kyle Murrell, 2026 #defiancegallery #sydneygalleries #contemporaryart #australianartgallery #artistprofile by @defiancegallery
Vale Richard Morecroft. We remember our dear friend Richard today with love and admiration. He was the kindest of men with an intelligent curious mind and a wonderful sense of fun. An artist, writer, journalist and a man passionate about the arts and conservation. We will miss him terribly and extend our condolences to all who loved him but especially to his great love, Alison. by @defiancegallery
