Lush coastal light meets kinetic rhythm. In ‘Florida Vibes Series’ (2026), Detlef ‘Dego’ Gotzens translates the atmosphere of the coast into an expansive 64” × 54” oil on canvas. Grounded in his foundational discipline as a Master Glassmaker, Gotzens constructs a vibrant, layered terrain where botanical greens, electric turquoise, and sun-drenched pigments dance across the surface.

Coastal light, physical depth, and uninhibited color. ‘Florida Vibes Series’ (64” × 54”, 2026) by German-Canadian artist and Master Glassmaker Detlef ‘Dego’ Gotzens. Discover more on Niotah.

Niotah Feature: Artist of the Month
Artist: Detlef “Dego” Gotzens
Focus: Architecture of Light & Physical Abstraction

Mastery is built through discipline and liberated through gesture. This month, Niotah features German-Canadian artist and Master Glassmaker Detlef ‘Dego’ Gotzens. From the architectural precision of stained glass installations to the physical archaeology of his Excavations and Florida Vibes series, Gotzens transforms the canvas into an enduring terrain of memory, light, and structural depth.

As October approaches, the colors change, the light shifts, and everything seems to take on another atmosphere.

This portrait of Serge Fiori has always carried something of that feeling for me—the face emerging through layers of leaves, color and memory, somewhere between presence and disappearance.

With Art Fair Tampa now getting very close, I’ll be sharing a little more of my work each week as I prepare for the show.

And for those who would like to explore beyond the originals, my DEGOARTS Collector Circle also opens the door to a selection of museum-quality fine art prints.

See you in Tampa this October.

Love this framed version, I am continuing to make these kind of works that feel like an extraction from nature, there is so much room to play.

I’m pleased to share that I will be exhibiting at the inaugural Art Fair Tampa International this October. It’s an exciting moment, and one that feels especially meaningful as I continue developing this body of work in dialogue with collectors, curators, and new audiences.

This group of works reflects my ongoing interest in transformation, material tension, and the layered construction of form. More to come as the fair approaches — and I look forward to sharing this next chapter with you.

I'm excited to announce that I'll be exhibiting at Art Fair Tampa this October.

Over the next several weeks I'll be preparing new paintings, selecting works for the exhibition, and sharing glimpses from my studio as everything comes together.

For more than fifty years I've worked as an artist, but every exhibition still feels like the beginning of a new conversation.

If you're planning to visit Art Fair Tampa, I'd love to meet you there.

More updates soon...
