From now on at the Klinker you can order the delicious El Puente Mate, a refreshing iced tea like caffeinated mate drink.

El Puente Mate will be replacing our long held staple Club Mate, because it aligns more with out values of organic/biological food production, agro-ecology, worker controll/self management, and the support of social/mutual aid projects. So this is a project we as the Klinker collective want to support.

The mate is organic and originated from the Brazilian landless farmers' movement MST, with fair trade organic sugar from Paraguay.

The MST was formed in the mid-80's and has grown into a mass movement with around 1.5 million members. The core of the political movement MST are newly created settlements of land occupiers, the so-called "Assentamentos". The inhabitants cultivate the land they occupy together. More than 100 agricultural cooperatives have been established throughout the country to produce different products. A large part of the production is used for personal purposes, which has made the settlements to a great extent independent from rising food prices. In many places the MST has now been able to set up professional processing plants, of which COPERMATE is an example.

COPERMATE is a democratic processing plant and export cooperative of matte tea in the state of Paraná, Brazil. It is the joint property of about 200 members of the landless farmers' movement Movimento Sem Terra (MST), and they also work with about 600 small producers in the region. In addition to the production of mate-tea, Copermate is actively involved in social projects in the region. This is how money was put into community centers, child care, schools and technical education in agro-ecology. In addition, the proceeds will be used to support the political goals of the MST.

Join us on October 24th in De Klinker, where we will write slimy sonnets, slippery limericks, and gloopy haikus. Writing Playground is a space to write together and come together in play and creativity. We bring the exercises and games to help the words flow out, so it is very beginners friendly. We’ve asked you a while back what skateboarding means to you. We’ve gotten many different quotes like skateboarding is “delicious self-expression” or “queer joy” - as well as this one: “Skateboarding is taking up space where you’re not given any”.

This stuck with us. As women and queers, skateboarding especially challenges us to do this! That’s why we’ve organised a community event, where we dive into the topic of taking up space by building confidence. And what better way to do it then learn new skills from each other and express ourselves through art!

@abelmarijn is a social tailor with a central focus on gender joy. As a trans man, he has spent a lot of time exploring how he can feel like himself in his clothing, and he has started doing the same for others.
In his workshop, you will explore what gender means to you and how you can use clothing to empower yourself.
You will do this by talking together with the group about society, identity, and fashion, while creating a new item from old pieces of clothing. 👕 👗🧣🧵🪡

❗️Please bring 2-3 pieces of old clothing with you which can be transformed. No experience needed.

Get creative and make your skatedeck or helmet truly your own! You’ll paint, decorate and personalise your deck or helmet, creating a unique design that reflects your style and personality.

Who owns the land – and who gets to decide? Toekomstboeren is presenting ‘Land Struggle – the fight for land security for agroecology’, a three part mini-documentary.
This film, directed by Emma Haske, is exploring collective land ownership, land security and land reform in the Netherlands and Scotland.

Queer Movie Night: The Hunger (1983) + Diner

On Coming Out Day (October 11) we’ll be hosting our first Queer Movie Night eating café! You can expect a vegan two-course diner, inspired by the movie that follows it. This first edition we’ll be serving a blood-red roasted tomato soup, followed by an oven-baked potato served with a potent garlic sauce and a salad. Of course you can also join after diner for the movie.

The Hunger is a bisexual vampire movie with lots of style, starring Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon and David Bowie. Cinematography is done by Stephen Goldblatt, who would later shoot the Angels in America mini-series.
