✨️ The majestic Mount Whitney, standing at a towering 14,505 feet (4,421 meters), is the highest mountain peak in the contiguous U.S. Located in California's stunning Eastern Sierra Nevada range, it straddles the boundary between the Inyo National Forest and Sequoia National Park.🥾 The Mount Whitney Trail: This is the classic, standard route. It spans a strenuous 22 miles round-trip with over 6,100 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts at Whitney Portal (8,360 feet) and crosses the famous "99 Switchbacks" before hitting the Trail Crest. Most (including us) attempt it as a brutal 12-to-14-hour single-day hike others may chose to overnight at halfway point campsites.✨️ You must have a permit to hike anywhere within the Mount Whitney zone, even for day trips.🤍 Whitney summit views:From the 14,505-foot summit itself, the views are about as big as they get in the Lower 48: the Great Western Divide and Kaweahs to the west, the stark drop into Owens Valley and the Inyo Mountains to the east.🤍 The Trail Crest views:Trail Crest sits at about 13,600 feet on the Sierra crest, the high notch where the Mt. An absolute blue gem in the Eastern Sierra!! 💙 This is an azure-blue jewel set in a crown of jagged gray rock, ringed by massive peaks.💦 What makes it special is exactly that deep blue-turquoise color hikers keep talking about. It sits with a striking turquoise hue that it certainly isn't from the usual cause of glacial till that colors many Sierra lakes. The chalky sediment in the upper basin above the lake contributes to the water being so intensely blue. 💙 Beyond the color. it's a genuinely wild, hard-to get to spot. It's a true hidden gem, well off the beaten path and difficult to reach, which is part of what makes it so special once you get there. 🌈 If you're going to Yosemite, don't skip this waterfall hike! I've lost count of how many times I've done this hike. Whenever we visit Yosemite, I always make sure it's on the itinerary. The Mist Trail is where you get everything ~ thundering waterfalls, mist soaking the trail and on a sunny morning... light rays cutting through the valley with full rainbows in the spray. It's one of those hikes that actually lives up to the hype. It's no wonder it's one of the most popular hikes in Yosemite! Here's what you need to know:📍Start: Yosemite Valley (Happy Isles trailhead)🌞 Best conditions: clear sunny morning = strongest beams + rainbow chances in the mist.🥾 Distance:Vernal Fall: ~3 miles round trip • Nevada Fall (add-on): ~5-6+ miles round trip.🌼 Best season: late spring-early summer (May-June = peak water flow.💦 Expect heavy spray sections - this is the best part of the hike. If there's one spot I return to every single time I'm at Yosemite, it's this one! The views are absolutely jaw-dropping.
