A federal judge just ordered Chicago’s MLS to turn Zillow back on.

On Wednesday, MRED pulled roughly 43,000 Chicagoland listings off the biggest portal in the country. The trigger was nine listings Zillow refused to display, listings Zillow says were marketed privately against its access standards. Zillow also says none of the nine were even in MRED’s Chicago service area.

Nine listings. Forty-three thousand went dark. By Friday, the judge ordered the feed restored.

The MLS is supposed to be neutral infrastructure. The co-op a five-agent shop pays into so it can show the same homes as a five-thousand-agent brokerage. The moment it gets used as leverage, your seller’s listing becomes the bargaining chip.

Zillow’s own research found homes kept off the open market sell for less. Every year. $1.3 billion in seller losses over three years. Forty-three thousand sellers just had their exposure cut over a fight they were never part of.

Two moves this week. First, open Zillow today and confirm every active listing you have is showing. The feed flickered. Verify, do not assume. Second, tell your sellers the truth about who controls where their home gets seen, and watch who sits on the MLS board.

The judge turned the feed back on, for now. But that order was the easy part. The antitrust case behind it is just getting started.

Stop telling renters they’re throwing money away.

Zillow’s June 2026 numbers put the Chicago area at 6.5 years before buying beats renting. That counts taxes, insurance, upkeep and closing costs.

A renter who buys and moves in four years comes out behind.

Ask how long they’ll stay first. Under six and a half years? Tell them to keep renting. They will remember who told them the truth.

Some agents become gig workers in 18 months. That’s Chris Linsell’s prediction on this week’s Keeping It Real.

Chris is the CMO at The Mitten Group and a two-time Inman Marketing All-Star. We got into which agents AI replaces first and the one move that protects you.

Here’s it: film one short video today. Post your face. AI can write your captions but it can’t build your following. That following is yours and no one can copy it.

Your first-time buyer has the down payment. Not the closing costs.

@yourrealestateman.alex was on Keeping It Real this week. First-gen buyer specialist in L.A. His move: ask for a seller credit at closing and have your lender match it. Most listing agents say yes because they need the deal closed.

You already know your building. You know what sold and what it closed at. Nobody else sends them anything, and every year somebody moves out.

Your offer has been sitting two days and a voicemail is why you cannot prove it landed.

Text it instead. “Offer sent at two forty, confirming you will present it today.”

Standard of Practice 1-7 in NAR’s 2026 Code: a written request from the cooperating broker gets a written affirmation that the offer was presented. A voicemail is not a written request.

A voicemail asks. A text is a receipt.
