DELFÍN I. THE AMAZON AT ITS MOST INTIMATE.

Delfín I is where our story began.

Our first vessel launched in 2006 and was completely reimagined in 2025. With only four suites and eight guests, Delfín I is the smallest and most intimate vessel in our fleet.

Built in Iquitos by Peruvian hands and designed specifically for the Peruvian Amazon, she feels more like a private home on the river than a traditional cruise ship.

Two Deluxe Master Suites and two Master Suites offer floor to ceiling panoramic windows and expansive private terraces. The Deluxe Master Suites also have their own cool water whirlpools. From the moment you wake up, the river is always present.

With so few guests, days can be personal and flexible. Our skiffs take us beyond the main rivers into tributaries, creeks, lakes and flooded forest, with each day shaped by water levels, weather, wildlife and the knowledge of our local naturalist guides.

Delfín I journeys into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, more than five million acres of protected wilderness. Days can include skiff explorations, kayaking, forest walks, birdwatching, piranha fishing and night excursions, with opportunities to encounter pink and grey river dolphins, monkeys, sloths, caimans and extraordinary birdlife.

Art is part of Delfín I’s identity. Peruvian artist Harry Chávez created works specifically for the vessel, drawing on Amazonian animals, mythology, memory and transformation. Throughout the interiors, contemporary Peruvian design meets Amazonian materials and craftsmanship through local woods, natural fibers, artisanal textiles and bespoke pieces made in collaboration with artists and artisans.

On board, an open air lounge and bar overlook the river. The intimate dining room brings everyone around one table, while meals can also be enjoyed privately in the suites. Our cuisine is Peruvian, with ingredients and flavors from the Amazon at its heart.

A deeply personal way to experience the Peruvian Amazon. #DelfinAmazonCruises #DelfinI #PeruvianAmazon #wovenbynaturecraftedforyou taken in Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve by @delfinamazoncruises

DELFIN III. DEEPLY AMAZONIAN.

Twenty years ago, a Peruvian family had an idea: to create a different way of experiencing the Amazon. One that could be sophisticated without losing its soul, intimate without being insular, and rooted in the place rather than simply passing through it.

That idea became Delfín.

We were among the pioneers of luxury river cruising in the Peruvian Amazon, and twenty years later, we remain family-owned, Peruvian-owned and entirely devoted to this extraordinary part of the world.

Delfin III is the fullest expression of that journey.

The Amazon is not a destination we operate in. It is our home. Our guides know these rivers through years of experience. Our cuisine begins with the ingredients, flavors and traditions of the region. Peruvian craftsmanship shapes the spaces on board. And our relationships with the communities along the river have grown over years, not itineraries.

There is something powerful about knowing one place deeply.

We have spent two decades doing exactly that: navigating the same rivers, learning from the same forest, building a Peruvian team and continually finding new ways to share the Amazon with the people who travel with us.

Today, as a proud member of Relais & Châteaux, Delfin brings its own expression of Peruvian hospitality to one of the most extraordinary landscapes on Earth.

Family-owned. Peruvian-born. Amazonian by nature.

Pioneering the river for twenty years.

WHAT PEOPLE REMEMBER is where BioRest begins.

The plants they loved. The ones they used. The ones they returned to because they helped. What grew nearby, what was worth seeking out, what someone taught them to recognise.

Through oral histories, BioRest draws on these recollections to understand plants through the lives of the communities who know them. A name alone tells us very little. The stories reveal why a plant mattered, how it became part of daily life, and what people still remember of its uses.

Behind BioRest is a simple conviction: the people who carry this knowledge belong at the centre of its telling.

MEET THE STINGLESS BEES

Meet Melipona! These native tropical American bees do things a little differently from familiar honeybees:

Tiny pots instead of honeycomb storage. They store honey in rounded pots made from beeswax mixed with plant resin.

No working sting. Melipona are stingless, though they can still bite to defend their nest. Small doesn’t mean defenseless!

Forest-style living. Many make their homes inside hollow trees, with a queen and a busy community of workers.

A sweet reminder that some of the Amazon’s most fascinating residents come with six legs and wings.

THE VIEW is what first draws you to the Amazon. Understanding a little of what sustains it changes the way you look.

The trees along the river store carbon and release moisture that helps form rain. Beneath the canopy, thousands of species depend on one another. For the people who live here, these waters and forests are home, livelihood and knowledge passed between generations.

Knowing this gives beauty a different weight. Appreciation grows into an interest in what happens to a place, and in the people who care for it. You begin by admiring the landscape. You leave wanting it to endure.

FROM THE AMAZON
What do you bring home from the Amazon? With NAUTA, there’s something for your wardrobe, too.

Giuliana Macchiavello, daughter of Delfín’s founders and the creative behind Jaardín Azul, drew on her childhood in the rainforest to create Delfín’s first leisurewear collection. Forest greens, warm terracottas, soft pastels: a palette with a very personal sense of place.

This Saturday is October Big Day, when birders around the world spend one day recording every bird they see and hear.

“We have to know what is here before we can understand what needs protecting,” says Erickson Pinedo, one of our naturalist guides. In the Peruvian Amazon, each record shows whether a species still turns up where it was last seen.

You don’t need to be an expert. Make a free eBird account, write down the birds around you wherever you are on 10 October, and submit your checklist by the 13th.

Erickson’s full interview is on the Delfín Journal.

SUNSHINE FUELS DIGESTION

The green iguana (Iguana iguana) relies on external heat to regulate its body temperature. Basking helps it digest leaves and fruit, while microbes in its gut break down cellulose; the tough material in plant cell walls.

It also has a “third eye.” This light-sensitive organ on top of its head detects changes in light and movement, helping it sense potential danger from above. And this tree-dweller is a strong swimmer, propelling itself through water with its tail to escape predators.

ASIAN ROOTS IN THE AMAZON

An unexpected guest in an Amazon garden. With its tiers of yellow and red cups, beehive ginger (Zingiber spectabile) looks almost too elaborate to be real. Those cups are bracts: modified leaves sheltering tiny flowers. You have to look closely to spot the blooms.

Its original home? The humid forests of Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia. It most likely arrived in the Amazon through the exchange and cultivation of ornamental plants, prized by gardeners for those extraordinary flower heads. Exactly when, and in whose hands, it reached the Peruvian Amazon remains undocumented.

That distinction matters. Being photographed in the Amazon doesn’t make a plant Amazonian. Gardens hold native species alongside arrivals from elsewhere, each with a history shaped by what people chose to grow. Pausing to learn their names—and where they came from—is part of getting to know a place.

TWENTY YEARS ON THE RIVER. A FUTURE TAKING ROOT.

A 70-year-old elder dreamed of seeing the leche huayo tree return. Once abundant, it is now being reintroduced through BioRest.

That wish holds a question for all of us as Delfin celebrates twenty years on the Amazon: what will we help carry forward?

A tree can hold a place in someone’s memory, a use in daily life, and knowledge that deserves to reach another generation. Listening to what an elder hopes to see growing again gives restoration a deeply human purpose.

This is the spirit of BioRest, our biocultural restoration program. Working alongside San Francisco, Amazonas, and Puerto Prado, it connects ancestral knowledge with ecological science, restoring native species chosen for their importance to the forest and the people who live within it.

For Delfín, this work helps define the next twenty years. We want to help create the conditions in which a remembered tree can grow again, and the knowledge surrounding it can continue to be shared.

An anniversary invites us to look back. BioRest asks us to consider what those who come after us will inherit.

Our next chapter begins with listening and takes root in what we nurture together.

20 YEARS ON THE RIVER

Before there was Delfín, there was a night on the Yarapa River. Lissy was in a canoe, beneath a sky full of stars, watching their reflection in the dark water. The forest stood in silhouette around her, alive with the sounds of the night. It was her first visit to the Amazon, and she already knew: this was where she wanted to be.

There was also Adonay Rodriguez, the first person she met when she arrived, and the man she credits with teaching her everything about this extraordinary place. Twenty years later, he is still part of the Delfín team. Between them are two decades of shared memories, stories, laughter, and a friendship that has grown with every journey.

Through Adonay and the crew, Lissy learned to look more closely, listen more carefully, and notice what she might otherwise have passed by. Their knowledge...and their sensitivity to the place they call home, helped shape Delfín from the beginning.

The dream was to create an intimate, thoughtful way to experience the Amazon, with hospitality that reflected its beauty, its flavors, and its people. Along the way, the boats became part of Lissy’s life story. Colleagues became longtime companions. Visits to riverside communities grew into friendships, especially with the women who opened their homes and shared their traditions, their work, and their everyday joy.

Even now, her favorite moment is standing at the bow as the boat begins to move, watching the river open ahead and the forest unfold on either side. In that moment, she says, every challenge has been worth it.

Asked what has remained unchanged since the first day, her answer is simple: the wonder.

We launch 20 Years on the River with Lissy and Adonay: two people whose shared story reminds us that the soul of Delfín lives in the people who bring it to life. #DelfinAmazonCruises #AmazonCruise #relaischateaux #wovenbynaturecraftedforyou #20YearsOnTheRiver #Pioneersontheamazon by @delfinamazoncruises
