eclipse transmission // he-art update

this angel moth is one of my favourite things I’ve made in a very long time. it is dark and soft and beautiful, like my inner world, the place I have been cocooning for the past year.

one year ago, my dad was diagnosed with too-late cancer, marking the start of a life season defined by tending, shedding, and transforming in the most uncomfortable of ways. his death in October initiated me into the realms of death and dying, and has been a gift in revealing how sacred grief work is, how called I am to it, and how deep that well goes (all the way down). his death was a gust of wind that flung open the gates to a lifetime of grief I had not permitted myself to feel, that I didn’t even have conscious words for. it has given me more access to joy and spirit on some days, and on others, left me absolutely lost in trying to comprehend absence and transcendence. how can a relationship change when someone goes back to being pure soul? what do we do with the unspoken words, the lingering anger and love and regret?

my grief process has been mostly to hide, to get the fuck offline, to crawl into myself, into this dark and beautiful world that I created as a melancholy child. in this place I have been wondering and learning and integrating so much, but too much time here has also left me feeling alone, disconnected from community— which has been a loss of a different kind.

what I am feeling with this leo eclipse, pristinely reflected in today’s cards of the high priestess and 3 of cups (bless synchronicity, bless symbols), is that none of us are meant to walk through life alone; especially not the hardest and most painful parts. these universal thresholds are meant to be crossed in community, so that we can hold, love, and learn from each other. my way of showing up has always been making art, holding space, and sharing vulnerably, and I have been so muted to the world this year that I forgot that. this eclipse has asked me to remember, and to begin the process of emerging from my cocoon. so thank you moon, thank you sun, and thank you dear friend for reading what is in my heart today. <3 by @delicate_realms

$The spring equinox took on a whole new meaning of ‘rebirth’ for me this year. While the sun and moon hung in equal balance in the sky, I lay in the lap of the great mother aya, purging painful childhood memories and stories of self-doubt and self-loathing, heaving from a deep and dark place inside, a place I didn’t know existed. The intensity of the fractal realms cracked me wide open, leaving me crumpled on my mat like a favourite dress pulled over head and tossed aside. Tender and vulnerable like a silky soft spring bud, thoroughly dissolved like the unknowable soup inside of a chrysalis. Now, I begin the gentle process of kintsugi-ing myself back together again. With the help of sunshine, sisters, paint, plants, writing, and a newfound humility that comes from knowing that I don’t know. 🤲🏻🪔🪞🐍💧 by @delicate_realms$

.:. on the easel / process / play

Yer girl procured an iPad in January and let me tell you— it has been an absolute game changer for my art practice. If you haven’t messed with digital drawing yet, fellow artists, think of it like an interactive sketchbook, mirroring the mind in creative process. It’s a big ol game of WHAT IF ~ a real time reflection of iterative thinking.

For a brain that is turned on by possibility and play, this shit is a revelation. My new/current process involves low-stakes doodling in procreate, until I get a yummm goldilocks feeling. Then I take the digital sketch to my analog supplies, and get making!

I’m still obsessed with materiality, mess and the handmade, so paints and pens remain my tools of the trade— but now I can face a blank canvas with confidence, with an idea that has been worked out, instead of going in blind and naively hopeful, then crumbling under the weight of self-doubt and existential crisis. 🙃 Yippee!

imbolc is often translated as “in the belly of the mother”, referring to our winter gestation ~ sleeping seeds in the dark womb of the earth, awaiting the light and renewal of spring

merry imbolc, cuties ~ may we embrace what the darkness has to offer 🌚🤲🏻🌀🌞🕯️🐍

“the remedy is to hold each other close”

from a sketchbook from years ago, when the world was going to shit, and it still is ~ but what was true then that is still true now is that we have each other, and this is what will save us ♥️ kiss your community y’all! mwah mwah mwah! 🌹 by @delicate_realms
