“Themis is tired”, opera-film, 2025

A corrupt judge’s life unravels when Conscience invades her home as ball lightning.
But the real reckoning comes with Themis — who drags her into a grotesque opera of justice,
where the punisher becomes the punished.

Was completely mesmerised by Tuesday’s performance of ‘So Are We: León and Lightfoot’ by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, that we made a return visit with a friend.

‘Shoot the Moon’ considers relationships and the fragile nature of the human psyche, accompanied by a stirring score by Philip Glass; his Tirol concerto.

In the second half, ‘Salle de dance’ is a joyful homage to balletic discipline. Based on a dancer’s daily classroom exercises, this piece takes the standard ballet class and turns it into a captivating stage production with a stunning score by Ilya Demutsky. @royalballetandopera @demutsky @lightfoot_paul @philipglass #ballet #london #royaloperahouselondon #leonandlightfoot by @demutsky

Today is the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, and here in Chicago I am reaching the culmination of my trip, with performances of Eugene Onegin in full swing following its brilliant premiere on Thursday.

My deepest gratitude to @joffreyballet for bringing this beautiful production to life, and to @sfballet , whose co-production made this journey possible.

I am incredibly fortunate to work with such an inspiring team. I love the artists on stage, the musicians in the pit, and all the dedicated people behind the scenes whose talent, passion, and hard work make every performance possible.

Thank you for this unforgettable experience.
Goodbye, beautiful Chicago, until next time!!

Ballet class, reimagined 🩰

Part of So Are We: León and Lightfoot, Salle de danse draws on a dancer’s daily study of ballet class, transformed through Sol León and Paul Lightfoot’s uniquely fluid choreographic style.

Originally created as a film during the pandemic, the work is now recreated on stage as a Company premiere performed by over 45 dancers from across all ranks of The Royal Ballet.

📅 So Are We: León and Lightfoot opens on our Main Stage on 11 June

Check out this tote bag. @sfballet gave it to me for the premiere of Eugene Onegin last January. Now I use it for grocery shopping. Fits absolutely everything. I love it! by @demutsky

A meeting of movement and imagination 🩰

For So Are We: León and Lightfoot, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot bring their distinctive creative partnership to The Royal Ballet for the first time, shaped by decades of collaboration and a shared drive to keep pushing movement somewhere new.

Captured in rehearsal, dancers move through choreography that is fluid, dynamic and charged with intensity, as Salle de danse and Shoot the Moon begin to take shape in the studio ahead of ppening night.

Salle de danse will feature a new score by @demutsky.

📅 So Are We: León and Lightfoot opens on our Main Stage on 11 June - book your tickets via the link in our bio.
