Hello Everyone, Today,I thought I’d not only change my winter pic to a more springy one, even though we’re not quite there yet…and to give a little background for those people who have kindly decided to follow me Apologies to my other faithfuls (whoops a little traitor theme there 🫢Promise no spoilers here) I’ll try to add in a few more details, that you might not have heard before. I started my social media journey whilst living in Australia. I had been living away from home as an expat in many different countries (deserts and tropical) so to write a blog seemed a great way to keep in touch with family and friends. I often think about revisiting my blog, but then Instagram came along and it seemed so much easier to post a photo with minimal words, especially when life is so busy. Whilst living overseas, I became an aerobics instructor, silk painting teacher and even entered a Highland Games competition, tossing the caber and participating in the tug of war to name but two! After 24 years living and working overseas we landed in Bonnie Scotland and have made it our home! I revisited my love of art, making personalised cards for family and friends when covid happened and I couldn’t visit anyone. I’m still enjoying creating them! I currently have a miniature schnauzer called Archie and my daughter brought home a street rescue dog called Poppy from Mexico. We also have chickens and currently four bee hives (I say currently as I’m sure this number will increase once spring arrives! (My hubby is a true Pooh bear because he adores honey!) I’ve always loved nature/plants with my latest venture being to grow a flower cutting patch! I always love to bring fresh flowers into the house and one day I realised that I’d had eight vases dotted around the house. This made me think about spreading the joy, so I put out a few posies onto the end of my driveway and they went within 20 minutes. It was a huge success over the summer months with everything grown chemical free by me. I made bouquets and posies, sold our own eggs and honey! Much to my delight people loved it! So I’m expanding this coming year! My daughter even purchased an apron with the logo Neesie’s Nursery! ❤️ taken in Aberdeenshire by @denise.allan

Happy World Book Day! (uk/ Ireland) 📚🥰📚 I have such gratitude for bookshops, libraries and authors…I don’t think you can beat holding a book in your hand, turning each page and devouring each word! So much so, that I took myself off at the age of ten, to join our local library. I was horrified that I needed an adults signature, but thankfully my aunty came to my rescue and authorised it. I came away struggling with ten books that day! 📚📚📚📖 I’ve found an amazing book shop online Harris & Harris located in Clare, Suffolk and they are willing to send out any purchase by post! 🤗📚 Kate the owner puts out a brilliant reel every week showing what’s arrived at the shop during that week and highlights them in the latest instalment of ‘What’s in the box Mrs Harris’…an accompanying wee snifter is positively encouraged whilst watching. So back to the books… I’m currently reading Mrs Dickens by Emily Howes (a signed copy …thanks Kate!) It’s a vibrant, witty and deeply moving story. It illuminates the life of a complex forgotten woman whose voice often went unheard… it takes you right back to London 1835! The second book is another signed copy …The Painter’s Daughters once again by Emily Howes! I really enjoyed reading this book. This time it travels back to 1759. It weaves fact and fiction into a haunting novel telling the story of sisters Peggy and Molly Gainsborough…daughters of Thomas Gainsborough the famous painter. It was superb and I highly recommend it. This is not an AD just my thoughts and review of both books and the brilliant book shop! What are you currently reading? I love to hear any recommendations 😊 Have a fabulous weekend everyone…and happy reading! . . #harrisharrisbooks #worldbookday #choosebookshops #readingaddict #phoenixbooks taken in Aberdeenshire by @denise.allan

I came across this bumblebee late this afternoon and notice it just wasn’t moving on a granite wall 🤔 So I watched it for awhile and decided that perhaps I should move it to a safer place for the night. Also we have lots of rain forecast for tomorrow. I picked a little verbena and scooped it up. Before I transferred it to the parent plant (bees love verbena bonariensis) I stopped to watch as she awoke and started to feed. Can you see her long tongue reaching into the flower?🐝 . . #bumblebee #mygardenstories #verbenabonariensis #savethebees #mygarden Saving bees - bees - bumblebees - cute - flower - verbena - pollinator - bee rescue - keeping safe - Scottish garden taken in Aberdeenshire by @denise.allan

Poor Gertie… she’s had quite a year! Firstly, she was adopted by us from roaming around gardens, with no one coming forward to claim her, so she had to learn to join our pack! Then over the spring and summer months, she became broody, not once but three times! And now she moulting 🥴 She does look a sorry state, but she’ll look beautiful once again, when she gets her winter plumage sorted. #freerangechickens #ourchickens #hens #chickensofinstagram #featheredfriends Chooks - moulting - backyard chickens - keepingchickens - free range eggs - hens - moulting chickens - our girls taken in Aberdeenshire by @denise.allan

What a fabulous sunny fresh autumnal morning and to top it, I’ve received beautiful packets of seeds from the lovely Sam and Jack @dilly_dally_farm They have launched a fantastic project called ‘The Kindness Seeds Project’ The projects mission is to fund school gardening projects by building a community of likeminded kind gardeners who want to make a difference. For every packet of seeds they sell, they will donate a packet to a school. And for every ‘Kindness Seeds Subscription’ they will send a school a starter kit with compost, gardening gloves, watering can, trowel, plant labels and seeds, and all the tools to set up a gardening project, including grow guides, ‘how to’ videos and ideas for gardening and fundraising projects. A brilliant concept and I wish you huge well deserved success. Happy Floral Friday 💐 From tiny seeds grow amazing things 🌱🤗🌱 by @denise.allan
