POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This one’s for the nerds.

Some photographers don’t put too much stock into their gear. I’m not some photographers. I’ve spent the last fifteen years working on my craft, understanding my use of light, how to work with my subjects and how to provide everyone around me with an incredible experience whenever a camera is in my hands.

Me fiddling around with my gear is just me tapping into the little kid who liked to take things apart, and put them back together, who loved his legos and devoured books. Now I read camera manuals and love the tactile experience of an incredible piece of engineering in my hands.

I still think photography is magic. It doesn’t matter how much I read about photons and silver, and chemicals and dark rooms. Magic, pixie-dust, wizardry; MAGIC.

All of this to say that the magic keeps me engaged and excited about photography. So much so, that I’ve recently decided to tinker with a camera from 1999. A robust electronic film camera that not too many photographers have heard of or might be too scared to try due to this camera brands reputation for failure (heavy on the electronics).

I present to you my new favorite camera of all time - The Contax RX aka My Contax 645 killer!

A 35mm film camera paired with a legendary lens lineup that is highly sought after by filmmakers for their character-rich rendering. With the lens used in these images, you can see how it holds up against any medium format film camera. I’m milking every 36 frames of every roll instead of settling for 10-16 frames I’d get out of medium format.

I invite you to go down the rabbit hole and see if this is a system for you!

I’ll never get over the fact that this is what “going to work” looks like for me.

A look at a recent wedding at Holman Ranch with the loveliest couple and team.

I had to rush a couple of rolls of film ahead of this wedding to make sure that my new #ContaxG2 was operational and once I received the green light, I was off to the races!

This is a mix between the Contax, a couple of Holga’s and a Nikon!

this is my first look at my #contaxg2 in action outside of that first test roll. These were all taken while on the clock with the exception of one frame I snuck in there.

Excited to continue putting more rolls through this camera and getting more acquainted with it. So far it’s been a 10/10 experience. It’s such a joy to hold, shoot and honestly - just look at!

the last two frames were taken in the Holga 120 by my talented second shooter @selenadltphotography I admit I have a love-hate relationship with that camera taken in Carmel Valley, California by @dennisroycoronel

What happens when a couple trusts you completely and allows you to send out your team in your stead? THIS!

Oh boy!!! My Lead Photographer - Danny Acevedo, has been working with me since 2020. I’ve been guiding and molding his eye and nurturing his natural talent all along the way while still managing to bully him here and there and earn each others trust both creatively and personally.

He’s come to know my tastes, what I like, what I don’t like, how I carry myself on a wedding day and how I work for my couples. Watching him grow and be able to deliver this kind of an experience for our clients has been nothing short of magical. Of course, a big thanks and credit is due to our incredibly second shooter this day - Nika Libres, who came through and delivered in a major way.

I’d like to echo what I said in yesterdays post and continue to give thanks to incredible clients who trust in my vision, taste and ethic.

Cheers!

Wedding Weekend Previews hit everyone’s inbox late last night.

So many moments and so much love & fun!

Honestly - this post doesn’t do this weekend much justice. There are so many moments to relive, but these were some of my favorites that I just couldn’t ignore. The sun came out and said hello, but also graced us with the most beautiful light.

Always left with an immense amount of gratitude for my couples and planners to entrust their vision to me. Thank you.

I love it when clients call on me to celebrate important milestones in their lives. Sadiyah, just happens to be celebrating the acquisition of her second Porsche!

Carmel Wedding Weekend.

What it looks like when you give yourself over completely and trust in the vision.

From Eileen’s incredible design and execution, to the wonderful staff from Holman and of course catering, florals and the DJ’s party vibes to finally the visual documentation of it all through photo & video; this wedding is a thing of beauty and the perfect example of being in the moment and enjoying your closest friends and family.

The weather was absolutely beautiful and an incredible way to kick off the autumnal season.

Goodbye Leica 🔴

It’s actually been over a year since I left the Leica ecosystem, and I haven’t looked back.

After having worked with the major premium cameras from Leica & Hasselblad in search of the best workflow, colors, tones and experience, I ultimately landed back with Fujifilm.

Proving once more that the gear doesn’t matter. Or does it? In my case, I can’t imagine working with a system that doesn’t allow me to achieve what I’m able to capture in-camera with Fujifilm.

I have dialed in my “look” in-camera and there are instances where an image literally needs no post-processing. Seeing what I deliver in-camera is so liberating, the only feeling that comes close is shooting film itself.

Speaking of shooting film, the latest addition to the kit is my new black Contax G2. It’s replacing a $50 canon point shoot that comes with a dual lens 28/48. People are always shocked to learn that’s what I transitioned to after working with the Leica MP among other premium film cameras. However, the G2 will be filling a void I’ve been feeling for some time now.

So this is it! This is my entire wedding kit which consists of only two focal lengths 28 & 50; there is also a drone in my bag and a Holga 120, which I absolutely hate working with. I’ll probably retire that camera very very soon.

If you’d like to explore your own kit together or figure out what works for you, send me a message to book a consultation call. I regularly chat with photographers who need help with the more technical side of things!

New camera test roll ahead of this upcoming 6-week stretch of travel & weddings.

A rare look at life behind the lens: The Children (human & feline), The Wife, and my car.

A big shout to the mom & pop film lab near me as well as @rewindfilmlab for getting these rolls out to me lightning fast!

A look at the One & Only Moonlight Basin resort in Montana.

This place literally took my breathe away.

At around 7k feet in elevation, this getaway is meant to be enjoyed and absorbed through its surrounding beauty and its quiet aesthetic.

I had the honor of joining a close friend recently to assist him with the capturing of a beautiful wedding event. These images are a look at my perspective as I walked through each space and what naturally drew me in.

Swipe to the final image for a look at some manifestation of my own. I hope to one day see the work of talented Designers be spotlighted through my lens and editorial taste of AD.
