Taking climate action for 700k Denverites! Part of @therealcityofdenver.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Colorado’s climate future depends on the people building it.

Denver is investing in workforce development to open pathways into the skilled careers that will shape a cleaner, more resilient city—from electricians and HVAC technicians to other climate-critical trades.

A recent Denverite story highlights the growing demand: Colorado Energy Office has identified 20 “climate-critical” occupations essential to reducing carbon pollution over the next decade, with many of the largest workforce gaps expected in skilled trades.

In the Front Range, meeting demand for all-electric heating and cooling systems, such as heat pumps, will require the HVAC workforce to grow by 23% each year.

Through Denver’s Training Rebates program, we’re empowering the next generation of workers to drive this transition. Learn more at the link in our bio. Clean energy 🤝 agriculture.

Happy Earth Week! We’re excited to spotlight our solar garden project at the @denverbotanic @chatfieldfarms.

This five-acre #agrivoltaics project co-mingles solar panels that generate electricity for the farm and its surrounding community with crops that grow beneath them, which are later donated to hunger relief organizations!

Chatfield Farms and the Laboratory of the Rockies 🗻 will release results from the experiment, including the best crops to grow, overall water use, and the project’s impact on soil health and biodiversity.

A huge shoutout to all of our partners, as well as Denver’s Climate Protection Fund that help to make it all possible!

Watch the clip (featuring one of our social media wizards, Jess) and visit the link in our bio to learn more about the project. ☀️ taken in Chatfield Botanic Gardens by @denvercasr

Evie, our West Colfax neighbor, has a simple way of getting to know the streets of the community: walk (or roll) slowly, stay curious, and bring friends along. 👀

“The way we experience our environment, even if we don’t notice it all the time, has such an impact on quality of life.”

Last weekend, Evie and a group of neighbors trained with @pedestriandignity so they can guide upcoming walk and rolls to check out the safety, accessibility, and areas of opportunity in the West Colfax community. Now they’re ready, and they want you to come along!

We’ll stroll - and roll - together, stop at a few locations, and talk about what we love and what we’d change. No experience needed, just a little curiosity. And you’ll meet plenty of neighbors along the way. 🤝

📅 This Saturday, Oct 17
📍 Meet at 10am at Side Pony Coffee and Cocktails (4635 W Colfax Ave)

In Evie’s words, “We need as many people as possible.” Grab a friend and come along! 💚

Let us know if you’d like to attend by emailing 14thAve@wecandenver.org

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honor the histories, cultures, resilience and ongoing contributions of Native American and Indigenous peoples as the original inhabitants of the Americas.

Denver and the surrounding region are built on the ancestral homelands of many Indigenous peoples, and Indigenous communities continue to shape our city today.

We’re also highlighting @denverparksrec and their Focused Indigenous Restoration Environmental Stewardship (F.I.R.E.S.) program, which gives young adults hands-on experience in wildfire mitigation, forest restoration and environmental stewardship while learning alongside experienced Tribal members and conservation professionals.

Today and every day, we recognize the importance of Indigenous knowledge, stewardship and connection to the land.

Learn more about the F.I.R.E.S. program and its work in Denver’s Mountain Parks at the link in our bio.

A historic Denver landmark got a 21st-century energy upgrade. 💡✨

Through the Energize Denver program, the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception replaced outdated lighting with energy-efficient LEDs, helping lower energy use while better illuminating the church’s historic interior.

The results are significant: the Basilica’s monthly electricity bill dropped from about $1,200 to around $100, saving more than $13,000 a year.

The project also received support through Denver’s Energize Denver Energy Navigation (EDEN) program, which provides technical guidance to help qualifying buildings identify a path toward compliance with energy-efficiency requirements.

Read the full story in the link in our bio to learn how one of Denver’s historic buildings is cutting energy costs while preserving what makes the space special. 💚 Interior of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, showing the ornate white altar beneath tall stained-glass windows and vaulted Gothic arches. taken in Denver, Colorado by @denvercasr

“I’m just one person. What can I do about climate change all by myself?” 🤷🏻‍♀️

After Colorado experienced one of the hottest and driest years on record, the need to keep climate action top of mind has never been more important.

That’s why I wanted to share an initiative that @DenverCASR #ad is concentrating on right now.

“The One Effect” campaign encourages Denverites to take 6 seconds to record a video and continue to commit to taking action to protect the people and places they love 🫶🏼

💌 Comment “climate” and I’ll send you the link to film a video saying, “I’m just one person. What can I do about climate change all by myself?”

If you care about any of these issues, please take 6 seconds and film a quick video:
• extreme heat and drought
• wildfire smoke and poor air quality
• rising utility costs to heat and cool our homes
• protecting the outdoor spaces and activities we all love
• bike lanes, public transit, and electric vehicles
• energy efficient heating and cooling options

These are some easy ways we can make a difference in protecting our planet:
• Recycle
• Buying second hand
• Carpool whenever possible
• Visit National Parks so they continue to receive funding
• Vote for candidates who care about protecting the earth and public lands
• Bring reusable bags when shopping
• Use a reusable water bottle and limit single use plastics

When thousands participate and see others do the same, our collective efforts add up to make a real difference.

You can see the live tracker of the number of people who have participated already on the 🔗 www.denvergov.org/oneeffect page in the “world record tracker” section.

Thanks for making a difference, Denver ❤️

This Halloween, your costume doesn’t have to be brand new to be boo-tiful. 👻🎃

Thrifting, borrowing or reusing costume pieces can help cut down on waste, and you might find something way more creative than what’s on the rack at a big-box store.

Denver’s Reuse Business Directory can help you find local places to buy used, repair or rent items while supporting local businesses.
