Twonte has done an amazing job selling our paper around the City. He was one of our top 10 vendors last month. If you see him anywhere in #Denver stop by and say, "Hi." He is always fun to chat with.

Twonte spent a little time chatting with @gilesclasen today when he stopped by to pick up papers, and we love putting a spotlight on him for his amazing work! by @denvervoice

Last week, we had six new people enroll in our vendor program. That's six more people choosing dignified work over a handout. Six more people who will sell the Denver VOICE and begin rebuilding their lives.

Growth like this is exactly what we want to see. And it points to a real opportunity. Every extra hour we open the vendor office creates more opportunities for new vendors to begin earning an income. Every hour gives our vendors more opportunities to sell more papers.

Right now, Giles Clasen, our executive director, does what he can to meet vendors between office hours and get them their papers. But you can help us expand our vendor programs.

A recurring monthly donation, even a small one, helps us get there:

$5 a month funds 2 hours of our vendor office being open. $10 a month funds a full 4-hour day. $25 a month funds more than 2 days of our vendor office being open.

This isn't abstract. More open hours means more vendors resupplied, more papers sold, more income in their pockets, and more people reading about important issues.

We're growing. Support the Denver VOICE and help us open the door more frequently, so we can match that growth.

Will you become one of our Hot 100 monthly donors?

Homelessness myths can't survive real conversation.

Every time someone buys a paper from a Denver VOICE vendor, that's what happens. Not a transaction. A conversation. A moment where a Denverite sees past the myths and meets the person underneath, someone going through a hard stretch, trying to make it through.

That's the whole model. Vendors earn 100% of what they sell. No handout, just a fair shot and a human connection.

Buy a paper. Have a conversation. Change a mind.

For many Denverites earning low-to-no income, micromobility programs like Veo are a lifeline.

Read the story co-written by Robert Davis and @gilesclasen for the July issue about Veo and its program for individuals experiencing homelessness or financial instability.
 or no income, micromobility.

Albert Bland consistently has been one of our top vendors. Whether you’re at the Boulder Farmers Market, Trader Joe’s on 7th & Logan, the CU Boulder campus, or any number of festivals throughout Denver, you are likely to run into Albert vending the Denver VOICE. Here is what he has to say about what the VOICE means to him:

“My name is Albert, and I have been selling the Denver VOICE for years.

I was living in a shelter and selling up to 1,000 papers a month so that I could afford my own apartment. I was able to secure housing and achieve my goals because of the opportunities with Denver VOICE. There aren't many opportunities when you're homeless. Without the VOICE, I don't know what I would do to replace the income."

Jerry has been a Denver VOICE vendor for more than 10 years. He told us today, "I’m so grateful to the Denver VOICE. Without the VOICE, I don’t know what I would do. Without the Denver VOICE, I would probably have to go back to bussing tables, if I could find a job, and that is a big if. The reason I work for the VOICE is that I can work my own hours and I am treated better as a VOICE vendor than at other jobs."

Wayne Easterling has been a Denver VOICE vendor for a little more than a year. In this short video, he explains why vending the VOICE has been especially helpful for older vendors like him, who otherwise might not earn an income.

To ensure that folks like Wayne can continue to rely on the money they make from vending the paper, please consider setting up a recurring donation via the link in our bio.
