I was thinking for a second, but let’s do this again. 🌸

Last time I posted one of these, I claimed to be a creative. Two years back, that was a completely different statement. I called myself a creative because I enjoyed art, I enjoyed design, and I wanted to share this passion with others. Never did I think I would pursue it the way I did.

I now work full time as a designer, helping artists create and build their ideas. I help others shape ideas by creating layouts and finalising art and files for production. I have worked in collaboration with a fantastic WA artist, publishing our first public artwork together. I worked on my first public exhibition piece, opened a website, and added a big, bold dream to my list.

Now I hope I show and create what I was craving back then, two years ago, when I was a creative who enjoyed the creative field, the ideas of others, and craved motivation to start.🤭 taken in Perth, Western Australia by @depetris.design

Hello again. 👋🏼

What did I do the past few months?! Mainly fed you with content about my latest sculpture. Let’s be honest…who wouldn’t be proud of their first major piece.

Yes I’ve done other works, but they were all in collaborations. Which I loved to be part of and which I still continue pursuing.

The work within a team, the support I can give.
That makes me happy.

But currently I’m working on something bigger.
And it’s not a sculpture.
But it’s something that will help me grow.

And if you live around, I’m sure you’ll benefit too.
That’s all I will say for now.

I’m happy you’ve been here, you’ve supported me and have seen me grow the past year. I am just taking it a bit further and I hope you stay on this journey with me. 💙 taken in Perth, Western Australia by @depetris.design

You know what I am really good at?

“Figuring things out!”

I don’t shy away from researching, getting inspired by others or asking in case I don’t know yet how something works. I’ve talked to a few people, especially some students I came across, and I was one of them too.

So often I get the question, “But how did you learn the program? Where did you get your experience from?” We have so many free sources these days and there are so many people who have done it before. Do your research.

I’m not saying I’m not a victim of the monster so called “imposter”, but I make sure I belong exactly where I chose to be.

Sometimes it’s not about the work that I’m producing, it’s about me producing work.

Also, why are we even referring to this as any type of production?!

Creative work is often seen as a flow, a state of mind, pure joy… but pursuing a creative path is not always so romantic.

In the end, we either make life work so we can create in peace, which is probably the preferred way, but then we often end up not spending enough time being creative.

On the other hand, if you want this to be your career, you need to jump all in and sacrifice some of that romantic idea of creating art.

Whatever you choose, I hope you find your own unique way of creating.

Currently, I combine work and creativity behind the camera. Not to pursue a career in photography, well, not just yet, but because of the joy I feel doing it. And to capture all those little snippets of our current process in our studio @bluebuttspace , I’m either behind my phone or I grab the camera.

This year has taught me to keep an eye on how I create, rather than only what I create.

And that’s a lesson too.

I might be good at making boxes 📦 as a packaging designer and daily user of cardboard, but I am not good at all in destroying them.

Suddenly I own a photography studio.

Well that’s not all it is and I’m not doing this all on my own.
I recently committed to a warehouse space in Perth where I hoped to get more creative and start more projects. I also needed a space to realize projects in collaboration and where I offer my design support, but I think we’re building here something so much bigger.

I’m overwhelmed by the community that I realized we can build. Have the chance to connect with other Perth creatives.

I’m excited for that journey. I’m excited for the space. I’m excited to learn and to share. To build and make and to saying “yes” to more colourful, fun and creatives ventures.

Hopefully one day I learn more about photography but I’m happy to leave that space for you, guessing you might be even better at it.

The amount of side projects we’ve taken on to make this space happen makes me believe this might be our biggest art project yet.

They say artists need to starve to create their most honest work. We’re hoping that’s outdated advice.

We’ve definitely left a few more coins on the table than we initially planned, but I guess that’s part of the game.

We’re still deep in the process, so thank you for being patient while we figure it all out.

I’m currently building my own design studio.
Our creative world.
The one I share with my partner and hopefully welcome a lot of you into.

As a woodworker, he brings a lot of the raw material into the space. And even though timber has been used all around us for centuries, it can seem plain, dull, and traditional.

At least, that’s what I thought.
And I take it back.

I’ve worked with wood before and, despite the fact that it reminds me of the cardboard I regularly work with, it is beautiful in texture, pattern, and colour.

There’s a lot to work with, but here’s a little glimpse of my current direction.
Sharing where my mind is currently wandering.

The idea grew from a need. ✨

A few years ago I slowly slipped into the world of public art. I couldn’t hold back my excitement and constantly shared ideas, challenges, and small wins with my partner, always looking for advice and solutions.

Before long, we were both involved in project after project and realised we needed a space where we could simply be.

Creative.

We built this space for our own dreams, but we want to share it with you.

Don’t have a studio for your silly ideas? No problem. We do, and we’d love to have you here.

Want to learn from other creatives and see how they work? We’ll be running workshops.

Need a creative space to photograph your art or content? You’re welcome to use ours. We can even help connect you with the right photographer.

For us, building a community is important. And when we say share, we genuinely mean it.
