Derek Abt is a live-looping multi-instrumentalist who blends funk, folk, Soul, Latin rhythms, and electronic dance energy into a one-man high-vibe jam experience. His shows are equal parts dance party, soul activation, and musical ritual, weaving bass, banjo, guitar, beats, and voice into an uplifting, improvisational experience that brings the crowd into connection and joy. 🌿 This is Derek Abt @derekabt

He is a multi instrumentalist, entrepreneur, world traveler, coach, teacher, performer, facilitator, and my brother! He’s an amazing human with a sweet heart of gold.

We met last month on tour and played a bunch of shows together and I had to get him in for session! So we dove into the creative zone at his place in Durango CO. Derek, is the CEO of DRMA school of music industry education.

Enjoy this soft version of his song “Free” you can find the full version on his Spotify now.

Derek, my bro, you are such an amazing human with such immense capacity for love and creativity. Your presence is fun and allows others to be themselves. I immediately felt a connection and brotherhood forming when we met and I’m sure there’s going to be years of collaboration and friendship. I love you bro! Thanks for being you! Keep inspiring me

Love you all, stay creative out there!

Dear Derek,

Man, I love you so much. You're a gem. I'm so grateful I get to be you. And I'm so grateful I get to be your friend. I'm so grateful that I get to watch over you, take care of you, learn from your mistakes, watch you try again, be witnessed by you as I try again, and to live life in the beautiful union of being you.

You're a rockstar, dude. You slay the bass and the guitar, and you're good at so many things. (Well, you're not the best drummer, but you have really good friends who do that.)

You have a sincere heart and I see you always working to improve yourself, seeking humility, and assisting others.

You truly work to do your best and care about everyone you come into contact with and want the best for them. Not to mention, you're angelically handsome while also kinda weird-lookin.

But even if you had none if these talents, no looks, no successes, no music, nothing to share, I'd still love you.

Completely.

There's nothing you could ever do to remove yourself from my love. I love you infinitely. Every moment you might slip, fall, error, get back up, try again, fail, give up, forget, remember, improve...all of it...I love you.

I'm here for you and I've got you, bro.

You and me. We're in this together. Forever.

I love you just because you are. You have nothing to prove. I know you always liked to show off, and if you do it again I'll still love you. But I just want you to know, you dont have to.

I love you before any of that. And me loving you, and being loved by you, that is the most important thing.

Nothing comes before that. Everything else can be an expression of that love.

And with this unconditional love I have for you, I want more for you and more from you this year.

I wish you exponential growth of your music and your businesses @dreamstorealitymusic @fluentmusician and @selfloverev.

I wish you a deepening of your friendships and more beautiful friendships to blossom. I wish you everything.

Happy 32, D,

Love,
You/Me/I

*And a BIG mention to all of my dear dear friends out there. I love you so much. I wish you to have everything you want in life and thank you for being my friend. by @derekabt

I had a difficult time narrowing down my 20 favorite horizontally shot videos from @_unison_fest_ , but here they are. My favorite part of Unison every year is getting on the Pamicorn suit and hopping on a paddleboard and seeing what ensues. Second favorite is starting the day with ecstatic dance at the pavilion and continuing to dance all day to the music created by so many great musicians and DJs/producers. Third favorite is teaching and playing with my hoops. And this year I got a bonus of getting to jam with a fellow handpan friend that I haven't seen in over seven years. I'm so happy I found a hula hoop 15 years ago. It's made me a better person, and I feel lucky to encounter so many magical people on my festival escapades. I'm sad that my summer adventure is coming to an end but happy for all the memories I've made. Thanks to everyone I met last weekend and over the past six weeks. Hope to see you again next summer! #pamhoopsisavibe #unisonfestival taken in TICO TIME River Resort by @derekabt

Wow this years @_unison_fest_ was absolutely the best yet!! The vibes were immaculate ☺️
The fire side sets were LIT 🔥 especially getting to sing and dance with a ahuarco brother from the sierra nevadas! Seeing how much music can literally bridge cultures far and wide! Wow!
My whole being was full of absolute bliss the entire time ~ bopping around from singing on the salamander stage , to the sacred fire, & everything in between! I am sooo immensely grateful to be such a deeply woven part of this gathering of soul tribe! 🌈
Getting to see the legendary @mikelovemusic after holding down the fire in rain 💧 was the absolutely cherry on top! A true alchemist🌟 I cried, I praised, I danced, and my soul was overflowing with inspiration to keep living my dreams!
I was so blessed this year to take part in the wisdom keepers ceremony and offer tobacco to the indigenous who made their way from the 4 corners of this world. I am so honored and I feel very privileged to have sat at the fire with many of them to listen to their words for peace in this world. 🌍 ☮️
No where else in the world do I get to play and pray like this!!
Thank you sooo much Unison for being such a precious part of my life & bringing me the most uplifting joy and meaningful service!
Sooo grateful to all my friends & especially my sisters, bandmates, and fire tenders who held me and supported me all the way through with so much love! My heart is with you all as we take this magic home ~ I pray we all nourish our communities with this kind of love! 💕

🌿 Unison Fest 2026 || Tico Time NM

This camera is one of the biggest blessings of my life. Thank you dad. Take a look at some of the shots I got of @_unison_fest_ this year!

Some photos mixed with some iPhone selfies

So many beautiful moments and treasures. One thing I love and actually find really hard about festivals is the transient nature of conversations and flow. Everyone is in their own flow and moving constantly all over the place and it’s hard to drop in deeply with our people but it’s also the thing I love most is being inside the organism of spontaneous flow.

Sending love to you all! Stay creative and keep inspiring me!
