DESERTFUTURES - 2025 REEL

-

It’s been a wild couple of years. I left my 7-year gig over at Apple as a Producer last January and I’ve been running around. A lot. Mountains and jungles, oceans and cities - all to sink myself fully into my curiosities and orient myself toward a life and career that I truly want.

Along those lines, I’ve put together a reel of some of my work and explorations as a digital artist / motion designer in the last few years. Give it a look. Share it with your friends in the creative industry, your mom, your cute dog and your sweet elderly neighbor.

A lot of you have followed these weekly exercises that spanned over four years - I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement and opportunities I’ve gotten. I’m so psyched to have met some of you over calls and in person over the years, too - I really hope this continues.

Big love for all my friends everywhere who, along with providing incredible feedback and support, often involuntarily doubled as my therapist throughout. Extra shout to my friend @haawryluuk for doing plenty of both.

Always grateful. More soon. 🙏🏽

Some FUI studies over the years. I really love screen art - they feel like a form of micro world-building of a bigger, implied environment. My previous time as a creative producer of functional screen art / product identity has only deepened my love for it.

Also - I’m currently available for freelance! Get at me for any motion + design needs 🙏🏽🖤

Hello from CDMX. I’ve been getting deeper into some new tools lately, and have been experimenting until the sun comes up. A familiar feeling…

Few things are more potent for growth and my personal happiness than project-based learning - along those lines, I’ve been revisiting some weekly pieces over the years as I push everything forward. Nine views of a city from above and below.

Some renders of cities I revisited while making my reel.

I love creating imagined cities. I grew up in Hong Kong and the sheer presence of the monolithic architecture, the crowds and the lights are etched into my psyche. Making cities sometimes feels like I’m engaging with those memories… even if as an adult, my instinct is to escape them and head to the mountains, the desert and the woods.

Week 179 - Molecular Fugue

Back from the mountains! I recently spent three weeks in Argentina - where I was in a looping rhythm of coffee, skiing, fumbling over my terrible Spanish and jamming on some freelance projects.

I’m in love with skiing and I hope to do it for the rest of my life. The reset was everything I wanted before re-engaging with some of the personal projects I’ve had in mind.
