Reimagining Amy’s mother’s wedding gown into a mini dress, we used the remaining silk taffeta to create six small bags for her and her bridesmaids. Inspired by Fortuny’s iconic bags, the silk was shaped into soft, drawstring pouches. Adding a touch of DesignBlender glamour, the bag featured a pearl chandelier at the base 🤍

Every piece of the original gown was given a new purpose.

Retaining the history of a garment while giving it a new life.
Fashion is perpetually searching for newness — a new silhouette, a new perspective, a new way of expressing who we are now. Yet, in that relentless pursuit of novelty, so much is left behind. Wedding dresses in particular, carry something far more precious: memory. They hold stories, emotions and moments that deserve to be continued rather than forgotten.

This is why Bridal upcycling feels so meaningful to me. It brings together emotion, creativity, sustainability and family - in perfect symmetry. There is something especially sacred about the bond between mother and daughter — A seed that blloomed from the union that this dress represents.

How many versions can one garment become? My answer: anything is possible. The process is about experimentation and, the most interesting part is the play. Stripping a garment back to explore cut, proportion and silhouette until something entirely new emerges. Because sometimes the most beautiful new pieces are the ones that already have a story.

The most beautiful bride, Amy — who chose to surprise her mother by reimagining her original wedding dress into her own party dress.

One of the most inspiring transformations, and a beautiful testament to how a garment can be given a new life — completely transformed into something modern and deeply cherished.

Meeting @Amystoddartstudio a fellow creative, I wanted to understand her world: her lifestyle, her aesthetic, and what makes her feel most herself. Creating a custom upcycled piece is an incredibly personal process. Over eight months, we shared countless conversations, fittings, experiments and, most importantly, had so much fun!

It was an absolute honour to take on the responsibility of reworking her mother’s dress and transforming it into something that felt entirely Amy.

Her mother’s long taffeta gown was reimagined into a sculpted mini dress, using the original borders and lace trims to intricately adorn the corset. The bodice was refitted into a dropped, cinched silhouette, with the original embroidery and pearls reappliqued. The skirt was re-draped into dramatic va-va voom sleeves, while the remaining fabric got repurposed into delicate drawstring bags for her bridesmaids.

A celebration of creative upcycling — where history, craftsmanship and style come together to give an existing garment a new look.

Reworking India’s dress — once loved, now reimagined as a day top and skirt. As my clients’ lifestyles evolve, it becomes an interesting challenge to translate their existing wardrobe into pieces that suit their life now.

So often we hold on to pieces because we love the fabric, a pattern, or a detail. Reworking these garments allows them to be returned to our wardrobe as fresh favourites.

An evening dedicated to the craft of upcycling at BRINK Gallery. Joining forces with the talented artist Julia Mottram, we explored sustainability through materials, circular processes, and imagination. The centre piece of our discussion - a DesignBlender glamcycled pellerine made from reimagined leftover wool from Julia’s previous works.

Working with what already is, I cut around shapes and textures, letting the material guide the design. Finished by hand with couture techniques and bedazzled with crystal chandeliers. A playful fashion experiment in turning remnants into something entirely new.
