Every Sentence Has A Story
No Sentence tells the Whole Truth

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Having a story and knowing how to tell it are not the same thing.

Every Sentence Has a Story is a Foundation Program of Designed Conviction for families, loved ones, and people directly impacted by incarceration.

It brings together language you can borrow, dignity-first storytelling tools, and support for difficult conversations—without asking you to make every detail public.

Two truths guide the work: accountability matters, and people are more than their worst moment.

Growth does not erase harm.

People who have been harmed have every right to their grief, anger, and boundaries.

And none of that requires us to believe another human being is incapable of growth.

Believe in someone’s potential—and still expect them to do the work.

Support can encourage growth without taking ownership of someone else’s choices.

Hope does not remove accountability.

Reentry obstacles are real: housing, employment, transportation, education, finances, documentation, and community support.

Pretending they aren’t there isn’t hope.

Grounded hope starts by naming them honestly.

Hope with its feet on the ground.

Real obstacles exist. Grounded hope does not pretend otherwise.

It names reality honestly and still asks: what can we influence next?

Support doesn’t have to promise that everything will work out.

Sometimes it simply says:

I believe you’re capable of more.
I want to hear what you’re working toward.
What’s next?

Identity is not only what happened to us—or even what we’ve done.

It is also what we’re learning, creating, practicing, questioning, and becoming.

Don’t make the dream smaller. Make the next step visible.

Hope is not denial.

We can acknowledge harm, consequences and real barriers without assuming the past is the only thing that can ever be true about the future.

What does it mean to support someone’s hope without denying reality?

Our newest featured resource explores a grounded version of hope—one that acknowledges harm, consequences and real barriers while still leaving room for growth and a future that is not completely defined by the past.

A sentence can describe where someone is. It does not have to describe where they are going.

Sometimes the part of a story that matters most is the part no one thought to ask about.

There’s always more beneath the surface—more context, more change, more humanity.

Sometimes understanding starts by simply choosing to listen.

Every Sentence Has a Story. Keep looking.

Some stories unfold when we look closer.

A sentence may hold one moment—but never the whole of a life. Understanding doesn’t erase accountability. It asks us to keep looking at everything that came before, and everything that came after.

Every Sentence Has a Story.

Some choices close doors. Some consequences stay.

But accountability doesn’t end with what happened. What we choose to do afterward still matters.

A sentence can mark a moment in someone’s life without telling us everything that came next.

Every sentence has a story. Keep looking.
