We couldn't have imagined a more beautiful way to kick off our fifth anniversary of Design Matters! Our Kickoff Cocktail  & ‘Set the Table’ Party was an unforgettable evening celebrating the incredible creativity of our designers, artists, and floral designers. From the gorgeous tablescapes and floral displays to the beautiful works of art, there was inspiration around every corner!   Of course, none of it would have been possible without the generosity of our wonderful sponsors and creative partners, who helped make the evening so special!   A heartfelt thank-you to our Presenting Sponsor, the O'Shaughnessy Foundation, and to Tim and Robyn O'Shaughnessy for helping secure this incredible grant.   To Shannon Kennedy, our Welcome Cocktail Party Sponsor, thank you for your generous support every year!   Spoonflower transformed our cocktail bar into something truly magical with their gorgeous fabrics and wallpapers. It was an absolute showstopper!   The talented Casey Harris Huffman of Events by La Fête brought the evening to life with her beautiful event planning and design, while Once Gathered created the most gorgeous florals. What a week celebrating five wonderful years of Design Matters! There are so many wonderful people who helped make our fifth anniversary celebration such a success, and we are grateful to each and every one of you. We’ll be sharing more thank-yous soon, but first, we want to shine a spotlight on our extraordinary speakers, whose talent, knowledge, and creativity made this milestone year so special! A very special thank-you to @steelemarcoux of @verandamag , for being such a wonderful moderator. Her thoughtful questions, warmth, and effortless ability to guide the conversations brought out the very best in each speaker and made for engaging, insightful discussions. Thank you to Annie Meyers-Shyer of @thisoakhouse shared the inspiring story of transforming her family’s historic Los Angeles home and sharing so many tips with our audience! And we can’t stop thinking about her fudge recipe in her new book ! Thank you to @younghuh and @christopherspitzmiller for giving us a fascinating look at restoring their homes in Dutchess County, honoring its history while bringing fresh ideas and thoughtful design to every detail. The stylish and engaging @janescotthodges enlightened us on the art of fine linens, and now we’re ready to toss everything in our linen closets and start fresh! From why square placemats reign supreme to the proper way to use fingertip towels in the powder room, Jane Scott reminded us that it’s all in the details! Thank you to @lauradowlingtheflorist for introducing us to the beauty of French-style floral arranging, sharing her expertise in creating elegant, artful arrangements. Follow along to see all of our amazing artists featured in the coming weeks! Alyssa Jill Harris grew up in Boston, MA before moving to the south with her husband and founding Willa Heart. She is a multifaceted artist known for her whimsical interpretations of popular motifs such as Silhouettes, Snakes, Martini’s & more. —— Inslee Fariss is a raleigh-based fine artist focused on painting and drawing as a means of discovering the playful, unexpected beauty of the natural world —— Laura Tate is a self-taught artist from Charlotte, North Carolina.
