I guess it’s time to officially introduce the girl behind the journey. 🩺🐾

I’m Destinae’, a first-year veterinary student at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 2030. 💜💛

I created this page to document the real journey to becoming a veterinarian. The learning, the late nights, the little wins, the “what did I get myself into?” moments 😂, and everything in between.

My interests include mixed animal medicine, animal nutrition, and research, but I’m keeping an open mind as vet school shows me just how many directions this career can take me. 🐄🔬

Most importantly, I hope this page becomes something I can look back on one day and see just how far I’ve come, while maybe inspiring someone else along the way.

So here’s to Year 1, figuring it out as I go, and becoming the veterinarian I’m destined to be. 🤎

The journey to DVM starts here. ✨

If they could speak, they wouldn’t need me. But until then, I’ll be their voice🗣️.

This journey has been about more than passion. It’s been about purpose, representation, and becoming the bridge between animals and the people who care for them.

As a Black woman entering a field where we make up only about 2–3% of veterinarians, this moment means more. It’s for every little Black girl who loves animals and is still finding her place. I hope she sees me and knows she belongs here too🫶🏽. taken in Louisiana State University by @destinae.monaee

I came here unsure of my place, and I’m leaving knowing I built one💙💛.

From a small country town where I was just trying to figure it all out... to walking into Southern University and A&M College unsure, unprepared, and honestly not even wanting to be there. But somehow, that place I questioned became the place that changed everything.✨

Southern didn’t just give me an education, it gave me purpose.
It gave me confidence.
It gave me a space to grow into the woman I always had inside me but hadn’t fully met yet.
Every lesson, every late night, every opportunity... it all shaped me.
And now I walk away not confused, not uncertain-but grounded, proud, and ready.

I didn’t just find my way... I found my place.💫

This is what it looks like when you’re exactly where you’re meant to be🥰.

This connection isn’t forced. It’s built through consistency, care, and showing up. They’ve grounded me, shaped me, and reminded me that some of the strongest bonds don’t need words. 🤎🐄🐴✨ by @destinae.monaee

I didn’t find a department… I found a family. 💛

The Agricultural Science department became more than a place to learn. It became a space where I was supported, poured into, and truly seen. A place that felt like home in every sense.

And within that family, I was blessed with mentors who went above and beyond.

Dr. Marshall, Dr. Davis, and Dr. Mellieon, thank you for taking me under your wing, guiding me, and showing me what real support looks like outside of home. Your impact on me is something I’ll carry far beyond Southern.

I didn’t just earn a degree… I’m leaving with people, lessons, and a foundation that means everything to me.

That’s the part I’ll hold onto forever. 🐾🎓 taken in Southern University A&M College by @destinae.monaee

Alpha Tau didn’t just welcome me, she elevated me❤️🤍🔺

The All That Alpha Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. didn’t just give me symbols, it gave me a standard. A standard of excellence, discipline, and grace that I carry in everything I do. It challenged me, refined me, and pushed me to grow into a version of myself I’m proud of every single day. Every step of this journey has shaped me how I lead, how I serve, and how I show up in every space. And that’s something I’ll carry with me always.

To my line sisters, 67 NDA—my sisters, my support system, my forever. Thank you for walking this journey with me and standing beside me through it all.

Happy 2-year anniversary to us ❤️✨
