Who says you have to wait until 55 to enjoy a 55+ lifestyle? 🌴

Something that surprises a lot of people is that some 55+ communities allow residents who haven’t reached 55 yet!

And when you see what these communities offer, it’s easy to understand the appeal.

Beautiful homes. Pickleball. Bocce ball. Fitness centers. Social events. Activities happening throughout the week.

For some people in their late 40s or early 50s, it’s exactly the lifestyle they’re looking for.

Of course, each community has its own rules, including age requirements and restrictions involving younger residents, so it’s important to check before making plans.

One thing we’ve really noticed in these Florida communities…
The kids are outside.
Riding bikes, hanging out at the pool, walking to community events, spending time with friends.
They’re actually engaged with each other and with the community around them.
And honestly, it reminds us a lot more of how childhood used to feel.

Living in Florida can be… exhausting 😅
Constant sunshine.
Beautiful beaches.
Having to choose between the pool or the ocean.

Three years in Florida. Maybe three times in our backyard. 😂🌴
And that’s something we never would have imagined before moving here!
Back up north, we spent so much time making our backyard the perfect place to be.
We had decks, patios, hot tubs, raised garden beds… everything was centered around our own little piece of property.
But moving to Florida completely changed how we spend our time.
Now, if we have a free afternoon, we’re not thinking about sitting in our backyard.
We’re thinking about going to the beach, walking through historic St. Augustine, enjoying the amenities in our community, finding a great restaurant or exploring somewhere new.
Our lifestyle shifted from building everything IN to getting OUT and experiencing everything around us.
And that’s something we love about living here.
It’s not that having a big backyard is a bad thing. It’s just that we discovered we didn’t need one to have the life we wanted.
We stopped building our life around our backyard and started building our life beyond it. ❤️

Sometimes the people we meet remind us exactly why we started Destination Better Life. ❤️🌴
A couple of days ago, we had the pleasure of spending time with a wonderful family from Wisconsin.
As we explored different communities, we started sharing stories, laughing and learning more about each other’s lives.
And something really special happened.
We realized just how much we had in common!
Different backgrounds, different journeys, but so many of the same dreams.
The desire to break out of the mold. To try something different. To create a life that feels more fulfilling.
We talked about RVing, the choices we’d made along the way and all the different paths that eventually led us to Florida.
And then came the best part… they found their dream home! 🏡❤️
Getting to share in moments like these is something we’ll never take for granted.
We don’t just get to show people houses. We get to hear their stories, learn about their dreams and help them take the next step toward the life they want.
And we absolutely love it. ☀️

“We’d love an acre or two, and we’d really like to be close to the beach!”
And we completely understand that dream!
But land near the coast can come at a premium, and there’s something we always encourage people to consider.
In Florida, your backyard doesn’t have to end at your property line.
Think about all the places you can enjoy as part of your everyday life.
The beaches. The walking trails. The parks. The waterways. The beautiful outdoor spaces.
Suddenly, having a smaller yard doesn’t necessarily feel like having less.

One of the most beautiful things about moving to Florida is finding your people. ❤️🌴
And we don’t think we fully understood just how special that would be until we started meeting so many of you.
People from different states, different backgrounds and different walks of life.
But the more conversations we have, the more we realize how much we all have in common.
So many of us reached a point where we started questioning the life we’d fallen into.
The routines. The expectations. The feeling that we were supposed to keep doing things a certain way simply because that’s how we’d always done them.
And we started wondering…
What if life could look different?
That’s one of the things that connects so many of us here.
We’re not all looking for exactly the same things, but we’re all working toward a life that feels more like the one we actually want to live.
And along the way, we’ve found some incredible people who feel the same way. ❤️

There’s a moment when you stop wondering IF you’re going to change your life and start realizing you actually ARE. ❤️
It’s called a Rubicon moment.
The point where you’ve made a decision that’s difficult to reverse.
When we were planning our move to Florida, we had several of those moments.
Big financial decisions. Important steps in our plan. Things that meant we were really committing to the future we’d been dreaming about.
And at each one, we’d look at each other and ask…
“Okay, we’re really doing this, right?”
The answer was always yes.
And eventually, we stopped asking.
Because we’d crossed that point where we were questioning the decision and started putting all our energy into making it happen.
And you know what?
There’s a special kind of freedom that comes when you stop looking backward and start moving toward the life you want. 🌴
