Some of you are getting ready to walk into a room that could change EVERYTHING—and you’re nervous.

Not because you aren’t ready.

You’re nervous because, for a moment, you forgot who you are.

So let this reel be your reminder:

You’ve done the work.
You’ve earned your seat.
You belong in that room.

And you don’t need to walk in hoping they choose you.

The room is already yours.

Now say it like you mean it:

“I OWN THIS ROOM.”

This morning I went to the gym and apparently my abs decided they wanted some attention.

Six pack. Just out. On display for the people. 😂

Even I was impressed.

So naturally, I took a picture.

Then I zoomed in.

And suddenly I noticed that my six pack didn’t look like the smooth, perfectly sculpted abs we see in magazines, on TV, and all over social media.

My first thought?

Don’t post it.

My second thought?

“Fix” it.

Smooth this. Tighten that. Edit a little here. Make it look more like what we’ve been taught abs are supposed to look like.

And then I caught myself.

What exactly am I fixing?

I will be 50 in January.

I am almost 50 years old with visible abdominal muscles. These abs supported two pregnancies and carried babies who are now 22 and 19 years old.

These are the abs of a nearly 50-year-old mother.

There is NOTHING to fix.

And maybe that’s part of the problem.

We “fix” so much that we’re losing our grip on what real actually looks like.

We smooth the skin.
Erase the lines.
Change the curves.
Remove the texture.
Perfect the lighting.
Then post the edited version as though that’s what showed up in the mirror.

And everybody else starts comparing their reality to somebody else’s edit.

So nope. I’m not fixing these abs.

They’re strong.
They’re visible.
They’ve carried life.
They’ve lived almost 50 years.

And this morning, they decided to show OUT. 😂

The more we put reality on display, the less power perfection has to make reality feel inadequate.

This is almost 50.
This is motherhood.
This is muscle.
This is real.

And there is absolutely nothing to fix.

What a morning!✨

Last Thursday, The Society of Professional Women welcomed 150+ attendees to The Inn at Villanova for “The Audacity Advantage: How Bold Leaders Own the Room and Lead the Conversation” with the amazing Dethra Giles.

Dethra brought so much energy, insight, and wisdom to the SPW stage. Her message reminded us that audacity isn’t just about taking risks. It’s about having the conversations leadership requires. Through her DARE™ model, she challenged us to describe, acknowledge, review, and engage with clarity and intention.🎤

💡One takeaway that will stick with us: “Your voice tells the room how to treat you.” Dethra reminded us that leadership is not just a title, it’s how we show up, communicate, and make our presence known.
