September 2021, vijf jaar geleden. Een van mijn eerste kastjes. Ik gebruikte (veel) Saltwash en een combinatie van Fusion metallic en Annie Sloan chalkpaint. Leuk om terug te zien hoe mijn stijl in de loop der tijd is veranderd.

Bonjour, deze nachtkastjes gaf ik een uitstraling die in een Franse omgeving niet zouden misstaan. Een grove laag Saltwash, Honfleur, Old white en een mix van Aubusson blue, Provence en Amsterdam green. De kleinere knopjes en een ornament van Woodubend maakten het plaatje compleet.

🇬🇧 Bonjour, I gave these nightstands a look that would fit right in with a French-style setting. A rough layer of Saltwash, Honfleur, Old White, and a mix of Aubusson Blue, Provence, and Amsterdam Green. The smaller knobs and a Woodubend ornament completed the look.

Oef, te lang geleden, te veel gebeurd. Afstand nemen was nodig. Na ruim een jaar was het weer tijd om de kwasten op te pakken. Deze kast schilderde ik ‘n tijdje geleden in Firle. Superleuke kleur maar het bleef ‘n muurbloempje. Weer fijn aan de slag gegaan en voilà; het nieuwe resultaat!

🇬🇧 Phew, it’s been too long, too much has happened. I needed some distance. After over a year, it was time to pick up the brushes again. I painted this cabinet a while back in Firle. A really nice color, but it was just standing; gathering dust. I got back to work and voilà—here’s the new result!

Annie Sloan omschrijft haar Chalkpaint Burgundy als “een kleur met een sterke neoklassieke uitstraling, waardoor hij perfect is voor stijlvolle, beschilderde meubels”.

Nou, ik ben het hier helemaal mee eens! Het resultaat is dan ook deze stijlvolle en mysterieuze blikvanger.

I couldn’t agree more! The result is indeed an eye-catching piece with a stylish and mysterious look.

Dit kleintje stond er al jaren. Ik wilde het weer naar de kringloop brengen. Maar het is best wel apart; de lade van dit kastje schuift aan beide kanten open. Dus… diverse lagen Chalkpaint en een handgeschilderd bloementakje. En was het de moeite waard?

🇬🇧 This little piece had been standing here for years. I wanted to take it back to the charity shop. But it’s actually quite unusual; the drawer on this little cabinet slides open from both sides. So… several coats of Chalkpaint and a hand-painted sprig of flowers. Was it worth the effort?

Eindelijk weer eens ‘n leuke ladekast gevonden. De profielen sloopte ik eraf, dat wel. De 1e laag is ‘n mix Saltwash en Honfleur. De 2e laag Scandinavian pink. De toplaag werd Olive, die ik er uiteraard gedeeltelijk weer afschraapte. De verrassing verstopt zich achter de klep: Gold leaf en ‘n mix van Paprika red & Scandinavian pink.

🇬🇧 Finally found a nice chest of drawers again. I removed the mouldings. The first coat is a mix of Saltwash and Honfleur. The second coat is Scandinavian pink. The top coat was Olive, which I naturally scraped off again in places. The surprise is hidden behind the frontflap: gold leaf and a mix of Paprika Red & Scandinavian Pink.

Ik was direct verliefd op de vorm van deze kast. Toch gaf ik hem een eenvoudige, antieke uitstraling. Van vintage naar antiek… ik hou ervan!

🇬🇧 I fell in love with the shape of this cabinet straight away! Still, I gave It a simple, antique look. From vintage to antique… I love it!

‘De lokroep van de groene ogen’ van William Barribal (1914).

Deze decoupage wilde ik zo graag op deze kast. Eenmaal bezig staarden we lange tijd naar elkaar. Twijfels… plan 1 met beige viel in duigen. Ze werd te flets. Soms moet je gewoon schakelen: flair, goud & streepjes had ze nodig… et la voilà 🧡

🇬🇧 ‘The lure of the green eyes’ from William Barribal (1914). I wanted this decoupage on this cabinet so badly. Once busy, we stared at each other for a long time. Doubts... plan 1 with beige fell apart. She became too pale. Sometimes you just have to switch gears: flair, gold & stripes she needed... et la voilà 🧡

Oerlelijke knoppen, marmer blad en gehavend…zo kocht ik dit kastje met zijn grappige buikje. De knopjes zijn vervangen, het marmer werd oud goud, Saltwash gaf de textuur en met ‘Florence’ van Annie Sloan werd het deze Italiaanse leukerd.

🇬🇧 Ugly knobs, marble top and battered...that’s how I bought this cabinet with its funny little belly. The knobs were replaced, the marble became old gold, Saltwash gave the texture and with “Florence” from Annie Sloan it became this Italian cutie.

Deze kast was al mooi. Toch wilde ik haar een oude Franse uitstraling geven want dat vind ik het leukste om te doen. Volgens mij is het wel gelukt... met mooie materialen, stoerdere knoppen en heel veel plezier (en zeer donkere wolken tijdens het fotograferen)

🇬🇧 This cabinet was already quite nice. Still, I wanted to give her an old French look, because that's what I like the best to do. I think I've managed... with beautiful materials, tougher knobs and lots of fun (and very dark skies while photographing)

Dit oude kastje en ik waren geen vrienden. Er gingen 7 lagen op maar ook weer af. Geschuurd en opnieuw begonnen . Gaandeweg ontstond er toch een soort van vriendschap… ik vind hem nu wel aardig geworden.

🇬🇧This old cabinet and I weren’t really friends. I put on seven coats of paint, only to strip them all off again. I sanded it down and started all over. But as I went along, a sort of friendship developed… I’ve actually grown quite fond of it now.
