I dined with the dead last night. 🖤

On the night where the veil between this world and the next is the thinnest, the night of celebrating Halloween and Samhain, the night in the heart of Scorpio season, I dined in silence with a group of strangers, all of us inviting our deceased ancestors and loved ones to come dine with us.

The candle flames flickered against the wall, the vases of flowers reminded us of the circle of life (the blooming and the withering), and the pomegranate seeds we chewed on assisted our journeys across the veil, into the Underworld.

Nothing about it was scary, but everything about it was beautiful.

As I sat in silence, shoulder to shoulder with strangers and friends alike, tears streamed down my cheeks as one spirit after another grabbed hold of my hand and spent time with me.

First came my sweet darling Nikki, my 19.5 year old cat who passed last summer and whose spirit came to visit me in Thailand when it happened so that I knew the exact minute on the dot that she passed (which the vet later confirmed). We got to relive our favorite moments together last night, most of them from our childhoods in sunny California.

Then, came my father’s dad, whose ring sat 5 sizes too big on my thumb. I grieved for him a life cut far too short. I thanked him for raising my dad and his brothers right. I asked him to look after us all and to always guide his 3 sons with a firm hand on their backs.

Last came my Poppy, my mom’s father, whose body slowly lost all function in his final years battling Parkinson’s. I grieved for him all of those years lost where all he wanted to do was play golf. I assured him that his 3 kids are playing plenty of golf for him. Finally, I asked if he could watch over my grandma, as well as the rest of us, but especially Grandma.

I won’t get into too many details here, but I will share that the cat came into our dining room in the middle of the supper, first growling and then sitting peacefully on the “Spirit chair”, the chair we set out for Spirit sitting next to the food we laid out for the same reason.

HELLO! 👋🏻

My name is Devon Rochelle Heyn, and I’m an astrologer and life coach, blending modern spiritual astrology with ancient Hellenistic techniques. Many call my sessions “practical therapy”, but you’ll have to try it for yourself!

⬆️ RISING IN GEMINI - I am CURIOUSSSSSSS to the ends of the Earth and ask everyone a million and ten questions. I am talkative, adaptable, expressive, and eternally changing.

🗣️ MERCURY IN VIRGO - I am a perfectionist and precision is my love language. Need a detail-oriented editor? Want someone to fix your grammar and organize your thoughts? I’m your gal! I think in systems, and I’m interested in the practical application of ideas. I bring order to chaos, clarity to confusion, and practicality to big ideas.

❤️ VENUS IN LIBRA - I am a hopeless romantic and a recovering people pleaser. People are my JAM! If I had to confidently claim one superpower, it’s DEFINITELY my social/emotional intelligence. Thanks, Venus in Libra! I thrive on connection, harmony, and connecting to people deeply.

💪🏻 MARS IN SCORPIO - Yes, I may be “sweet as sugar” (as one of my astrology teachers once said), but don’t be fooled—I’ve got FIRE under the surface. Goodbye, Guatemala. 🇬🇹

You are a beautiful country, a beautiful people, and a beautiful culture.

🌈 I have never before seen so many vibrant colors all in one place before. Other people may say it’s “too much” or the colors “clash”; you said, “It’s the colors of our land - the blue of the lake, the green of the forests, and the red of the volcano’s lava.”

👨🏽👩🏽 Your people wear their ancestral clothes, eat meals together in community, and sing loudly (and often joyfully out of tune) as a celebration of LIFE. Your people are kind, hospitable, and give the food from their table and clothes off their backs to their fellow Mayans in even more need than they are.

👧🏽👦🏽 Your children giggle as they excitedly show us their favorite games and proudly hike us to their fathers’ avocado farms on the top of your beloved mountains. Your children are playful in spirit but wise in soul.

🌋 Your land is old and wise, filled with the hum of volcanoes, the songs of the lake, and the whispers of the forested mountains. Your land has taught thousands of shamans the ways of the ancients and has now taught many lessons to this American couple, Devon and Kal.

🙏🏻 Thank you for holding us, teaching us, challenging us, and inspiring us for these 3 months. We will never forget you.

Whether you’re the Princess of Genovia or not, you DO have unique strengths/gifts and a very clear and special purpose in life. 😌🙏🏻

My favorite part of my job as an astrologer is reminding people of how AMAZING they are, and no, I don’t sugarcoat or make sh*t up.

Astrology CHANGED MY LIFE. ✨

…and as I tell you in this video, it all started on my apartment floor…

I was in a really confusing, directionless time in my life when I started looking up astrology on Google one night…

What I found would forever change the way I view myself and the world.

I found out that we all are so much more than our Sun sign (otherwise known as our “zodiac sign”). In fact, we each have an entire birth chart full of multiple planets and zodiac signs!

There is nothing SIMPLE about astrology at all; it is actually INCREDIBLY COMPLEX.

And as I sat there reading about some of my own planetary placements…

I started crying. 🥹

I had never in my life felt SO seen and SO understood before.

In that moment, it’s like I was given full permission to be myself and nothing but myself.

That night changed my life, and I’ve never been the same again.

I have since given dozens of clients permission to be themselves too, and their lives change for the better just as mine did.
