🎶 HUGE thanks to Uffculme School for stepping in at extremely short notice to host today’s KS4 Set Works LIVE! Day after a pesky squirrel scuppered our plans at St Peter’s Church of England Aided School! 🐿️

Throughout the day, Patrick Bailey and musicians from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra were joined by over 200 young people from across our Hub area.

This morning’s brilliant Come and Play Workshop saw students from Uffculme School, Queen Elizabeth’s School, and Okehampton College perform music by Queen and Toto. This afternoon, we were joined by more young people from The King’s School Ottery St Mary, KEVICC, Eggbuckland Community College, and Newton Abbot College for a fantastic BSO concert featuring works by Bach, Bartók, Will Goodchild and Steve Reich, alongside exciting new music inspired by themes suggested by our students.

A huge thank you to all the schools involved, the Hub team, BSO Participate, and especially Uffculme School for helping us ensure this event could go ahead 🎶 by @devonmusicedhub

Last night, Devon Music Education Hub Lead Lewis Gibbs was joined in London by Brian Moore and Graham Hutton from Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra for the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

Although we didn’t take home the award this time (congratulations to our colleagues at Hampshire Music Education Hub) it was a real honour to be shortlisted in the Music Hubs and Schools Music Services category and to be amongst the great and of the UK jazz scene.

It was also great to see another South West representative, Somerset-based Marvin Muoneke, nominated for Vocalist of the Year.

A big thank you to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Jazz for the recognition! by @devonmusicedhub

Tickets for Mr Handel’s Christmas Story at Exeter Cathedral are now available, with adult tickets starting at just £12! 🎁

For our last Gabrieli Roar Christmas Tour in 2024, we braved Storm Darragh in order to get to our young singers at @exetercathedral. There we supported local schools and choir groups from across Devon rise to the challenge of learning complicated four-part music together by ear – and performing it to a sold-out audience. We had such a blast, and so we are delighted to be making our return to Exeter once again this November in partnership with @devonmusicedhub 🎉

We will be filling Exeter's historic building with Handel’s riveting Hallelujah chorus in Gabrieli Roar's classical Christmas compilation of Handel's greatest works: Mr Handel’s Christmas Story.

Link in bio to book your ticket now, with Under 18s going completely free!

Brilliant day at Bridport Arts Centre, celebrating the culmination of our Beyond the Hills and Valleys initiative, delivered in partnership with Dorset Music Service and the fabulous musicians of Superlocrian.

This evening’s performance featured the world premieres of four original compositions by young composers. Huge congratulations to finalists Lukas, Elliott and Jacob, and to competition winner Freya!

We also enjoyed wonderful performances from the DYJO Ambassadors and participants in today’s side-by-side workshop.

A huge thank you to Superlocrian and everyone who helped make this such a special celebration of young musical talent and creativity. by @devonmusicedhub

Wow! Being shortlisted for three national awards in the space of a fortnight could almost be embarrassing… but we’re so delighted that our Future Musicians initiative, developed in partnership with Music with Mr Gray, has been recognised in this way that we really don’t mind!

A huge thank you to the judging panel of the Music & Drama Education Awards for shortlisting Future Musicians in the Outstanding Musical Initiative category, alongside such an impressive line-up of finalists.

We’re incredibly proud of this work and looking forward to the awards ceremony in February. @musicwithmrgray by @devonmusicedhub

🏆 WIN BATTLE OF THE BANDS. RECORD YOUR DEBUT SINGLE.
That’s exactly what @pariah_live did.
After winning the 2026 Devon Secondary Schools Battle of the Bands, they came to The Source Studio to make their first record.
And they didn’t exactly make life easy for themselves…
🔥 Complex, changing time signatures
🎸 An ambitious, constantly shifting arrangement
🎤 23 separate layers of vocal harmonies
All built into one seriously sophisticated debut single — recorded in a day.
Young bands don’t have to start small.
Sometimes you just need to give them the time, space and opportunity to show what they can do.

🎶🎷🎶 We’re delighted to share that Devon Music Education Hub has been shortlisted for the new Music Hubs and Schools Music Services Award at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2026! 🎶🪊🎶

The Parliamentary Jazz Awards celebrate the vibrancy, diversity and talent of the UK jazz scene, and this new category recognises the vital role that Music Hubs and Services play in nurturing young musicians and widening access to jazz education.

This nomination reflects the collective efforts of schools, music educators and partners across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay who help inspire the next generation of jazz musicians. Particular recognition must go to @devonyouthjazzorchestra which has been providing exceptional ensemble training, performance opportunities and professional artist engagement for more than 50 years, with recent highlights including performances at the Music for Youth Proms and the Vienne International Jazz Festival.

Lewis Gibbs, Head of Devon Music Education Hub, said:

“We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for this national award. This recognition belongs to the schools, teachers, music leaders and partner organisations who work tirelessly to ensure that young people can access high-quality jazz opportunities, regardless of background or circumstance. We are especially grateful to everyone involved with Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra, whose outstanding work over many decades has inspired generations of young musicians and demonstrated the transformative power of jazz education. To see that collective effort recognised on a national stage is a tremendous honour.”

Congratulations to all the shortlisted organisations, including our colleagues at Lewisham Music, Hampshire Music Hub and Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust. We look forward to celebrating the very best of jazz education at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards on 13 October. by @devonmusicedhub
