Woahhhhhh what a week! 🏂❤️
What a gift to be the CGO (chief glitter officer) of @sbr.aotearoa and as a consequence be surrounded by youngsters inspiring me to push outside of my comfort zone. 🚦
And then to be a part of the @allgoodproductionsnz team bringing @the__uninvited boarding pass to Aotearoa was surreal. When I was young and falling in love with snowboarding in the 90's, the prospect of competitions and riding park was so intimidating, which is why these events mean so much to me (and why @tomboy.media s @wayward film made me ball my eyes out).
This week was SO inclusive; Everyone was welcome, falling over was encouraged, glitter was compulsory.

Opening Night in Wānaka. What a way to start the festival!

A few things we loved:

⭐️ Live music from the super-talented @junogerlach_

⛷️Watching your faces as @christinalusti and @geepierrel skied that terrifying line on the East Face of Aoraki / Mt Cook in the world premiere of Hunter’s Moon.

🤝 Friends catching up, swapping stories and getting excited for their next adventure.

🎨 The incredible art display from talented artists and photographers.

💙 The smiling faces of our amazing volunteers - we couldn’t do it without you!

And the best part? We’re only just getting started!

Scenes from the 2026 10th Anniversary
of the Duke Festival!

Our team who are all volunteers, put in an immense amount of energy and passion into making this festival better each year for our wonderful community.

Our team is a very small committee of 6 who all live in Central New Brighton, have full time jobs, families and other community commitments. Each year we work very hard all year to bring this festival to you all 💚

The festival runs on the generosity of our amazing community. We couldn’t do it without you and we love our sponsors who are key to making it all happen!

We’ll be bringing you some lovely content over the next few months by our amazing photographer @dgerl and videography by @cameron.haylock and @fernworkz keep an eye out!

Water lovers rejoice! It's World Water Week (24-28 August). We've been working behind-the-scenes with some pretty neat folk to create a new short film, about the water cycle.⁠

As we like to say, “water is life, and when it’s safe and healthy, so are we”. It’s vital we have a stable water cycle, but to be able to play our part, we - as a community - need to understand more about it. ⁠

These magnificent wāhine / women did an epic hut restoration and relocation and we made a film about it! Come join us for the premiere at @nzmountainfilm this Saturday 11am in Wānaka. Here’s a few back country huts from the last section of @teararoanztrail we did back in January - see more at @noodlesforbrekky
130kms through the middle of Te Waipounamu/South Island, finishing at Lake Takapō/Tekapo.
These huts are such a treat. Sure, they’re usually not insulated, plenty of them don’t
have a fireplace or wood, there’s often mice around and there’s definitely no cleaner doing the rounds. But after a long day tramping and especially if it’s pouring with rain, having a table to sit around and play cards at is marvellous indeed.

🥾 Mother of three, Deanna Gerlach @noodlesforbrekky says the idea to walk Te Araroa was conceived during covid lockdowns, from their suburban home in Sydney.

The family sold everything in Australia, spent two weeks in hotel quarantine in New Zealand and then started walking the length of the country from Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga) to Motupo-hue (Bluff). ⛺

Day 1 on the trail was the family's first overnight tramp, but within three weeks they were trail-fit. Deanna reflects on the experience saying, "we loved it," but there were tough days for everyone. 🏔️

Flooded streams in Canterbury meant that they had to skip large sections between Arthur's Pass and Takapō. 🌊

The Gerlach family revisited these missed sections with now-teenagers and Deanna says it was quite a different experience, though once again it had it's highlights and it's struggles. 🚶‍♀️

She shares advice for others that want to start tramping and says, "don't run in and do what we did!" Deanna says to consider your motivations, what you want to get out of it and the importance of giving kids a sense of purpose and playing to their strengths. 💪
