Because we all need kittens today, don't we?

From the @guardian: "This adorable leopard cat – named Xiaosonguo, or Little Pinecone – was released into the wild in Dongguan, southern China, earlier this week. The wild cat was found alone as a newborn and rehabilitated at the Qingyuan Chimelong wildlife rescue centre."

Jaime y Javier Suárez, "Memoriam," 2023, shoreline-found dead coral fragments, lathe-turned into sculptural forms; majagua bark fiber rope.

I saw this as part of the NATURA exhibition at @tallerboricua in NYC, a gallery showing of works by seven Puerto Rican artists that were originally installed within the rainforest of El Yunque in Puerto Rico. From the Taller Boricua website:

"NATURA: Exploring the Dialogue Between Art and Nature in El Yunque is a group exhibition originally conceived in El Yunque National Forest and newly adapted for presentation in New York City.

"Bringing Puerto Rico’s iconic rainforest into conversation with El Barrio, the exhibition explores the ecological, cultural, political, and ancestral dimensions of El Yunque within a neighborhood that has long served as a vital center of Puerto Rican, Nuyorican, and Latinx cultural life." See/read more here: https://tallerboricua.org/exhibitions/natura/

The exhibition is up thru Jan. 17, 2027.

Mary B. Danforth, "Memorial to Enoch H. Long," 1823, needlework. From the exhibition “Locating Girlhood: Place and Identity in Early American ‘Schoolgirl’ Art” at the American Folk Art Museum / @afamuseum in NYC thru Feb. 28, 2027.

Tessa Solomon / @tessa.sol
writes in @artnews: "This show compellingly suggests that American landscape art truly begins not with the Hudson River School’s Romantic vistas or the god-defying expanses that would eventually give way to abstraction, but with young women—including free and enslaved women of color—who rendered this nascent frontier in needle and thread. [The show features] nearly 100 objects dating from the colonial period through the nation’s founding. These include the kinds of ornamental works trivialized as women’s work: needlework pictures, watercolor studies, painted furniture, among more mediums."
