I am not an influencer, neither I am a professional reviewer! I suck at explaining rules, and fall asleep watching How to Play videos on YouTube even with other people in the room (true story 😂). But you know what? This page was never meant for these things, it was always supposed to be a space for me to share my passion, meet other people and hopefully create real life board gaming friends in the process. So to celebrate 1k Instagram buddies @riograndegames kindly agreed to give away a copy of Concordia. Why have I asked for Concordia you might wonder? Let me tell you! There are simply some games everyone should play at least once! Concordia is a classic at this stage, it is fairly easy to learn and teach, the player interaction is rather peaceful and there is plenty of strategy involved. ALERT! A new family friendly gateway game you must try! 🤗 For someone with a massive shelf of shame it is certainly an achievement to play a board game in the same week as it arrived in post! It must be that nostalgia that majority of Labyrinth or Carcassonne fans will feel, or maybe pretending that you are retiring at the South of France 😂 It is fun, puzzly and easy to learn. The ever changing board will frustrate some players, but I personally thought it was fun that you have to quickly adapt your strategy each turn. Yes, it is simple, but not everything has to be complex to be enjoyable. Carcassonne Labirynth is definitely more geared towards families, and I am certain it would be a hit with kids and teenagers. It is a fun mash-up of two iconic games. An absolutely fantastic gateway board game, that most likely will land under a Christmas tree for my cousin this year, and I love to review a title that I am confident enough to recommend to friends and family. I had a pleasure to play Impropriety by @punktuationgames via @ukbg_review_circle , which is 1-6 players board game set in a regency era. I have spoken with Nina (the creator) on IG before the game was launched on KS and it turns out both of our families love Monopoly 🤡 She was such a lovely human being! ☺️ It got me a bit worried when I got the game, because what if I didn’t like it?! In addition, I am a HUGE fan of historical romance books, so the expectations were high. Luckily, I had nothing to worry about! The game mostly rely on rolling a dice and moving your pawn with some set collecting, so mechanically it isn’t complicated, but where it shines is the theme and rich story! Especially in the solo mode, where you chose your own adventure, which I LOVED! You can tell that the solo mode wasn’t an afterthought, but a very meaningfully designed expirience. If you love Bridgerton or romance, and looking for a relaxing expirience this one might for you. It is charming, deeply thematic and helps you almost teleport into that regency era where securing a marriage is your main goal! And let me tell you, Mr. Dollarsworth is worth befriending, my sister was getting so rich I would marry her if I be Lord Duffling 😂 I think Jane Austin herself would endorse this game, but if you cannot see past the theme, want more control over your turn or more strategic depth you might decide not to chase after a wealthy bachelor this season. Disclosure: I only had a chance to play solo, as Kam and my friends were super busy recently, but I think it would be even more fun playing multiplayer. We would probably get very competitive over who can mary Lord Duffling! 16 hours left to back Questiny by @questinyboardgame on Kickstarter! I was really hoping to review a copy of it through @ukbg_review_circle before the campaign ends, and although it wasn’t possible I had an opportunity to experience this awesome game during one of the board gaming afternoons in London. We had a pleasure to be taught by Leon himself, which added even more fun the experience of trying Questiny for the first time. It is a very accessible co-operative dungeon crawler, which reminded me of these teenage evenings when I was playing DnD at friend’s basement with my cunning elf assassin 😁 Dungeon Crawlers aren’t my go to mechanic so I was very pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the gameplay. Kam also loved it and we were talking a lot on our way back home how our friend @mechadr4ke would like it too. So if me not normally reaching for dungeon crawlers and then ending up backing it on KS hasn’t convince you to check out this project I give up 😂 Questiny is currently being reviewed via @ukbg_review_circle so keep your eyes peeled for my first impressions from the gameplay! Are deluxe versions of board games worth it? Golden foil finishes, inside box illustrations, wooden meeples, acrylic standees, metal coins, deluxified dice. Waste of money or something that enhances the gameplay? Don’t get me wrong, deluxe components will not make or break a game, the gameplay will still be a deciding factor. BUT…. they do enhance tactile experience and improve the table presence, and who doesn’t like a bit of an eye candy?! The only tricky bit is whether I want to invest in a deluxe version before I know whether we will get the game to the table often enough! Weekends for us our a great opportunity to spend some quality time with fellow board gamers, as normally week days are full of boring adulting and responsibilities. Connecting with people, who are as excited about gaming as me, was and remains the main reason why I started this account. What I expect when someone says a pocket board game - it MUST fit in your pocket! 😂 What is your favourite pocket board game? Reforest by @firestartergames is a perfect example of small, but mighty game in a portable box. It actually fits in your pocket! 😂 Perfect to take with you when visiting friends or going away. A light engine building with splash of set collecting. How you place your cards is very important! And it plays fairly quickly too. When you get 5 boxes delivered at once, so there is no hiding them from detective Kam! 😳 What is the most exciting delivery you received recently? It perfectly sums up my taste for games - very random and eclectic. Different themes and complexities, but that is what I love about the hobby. You don’t need to be pigeonholed into a certain stereotype of a board gamer. I can be immersed into a Bridgeton style game one day (@punktuationgames Impropriety I am looking at you 😉) and then embrace space exploration with Brink (@iv___studio ). Community question time! I see term ‘cozy’ board game all over BG social media and people use it more and more often to describe certain board games. Tea Witches was described as cozy, but the set up is long and the gameplay has crunch to it. A Place for All My Books was another one, with low player interaction and very chill experience. A Gentle Rain too offering a quick and relaxed solo experience. So what do they have in common? What makes a board game cozy? Is the artwork? The complexity? The feeling you get when you play it?
